DAREDEVIL [Netflix]

Daredevil-Netflix
Daredevil is a bold experiment by MARVEL and Netflix. This 13-episode mini-series launches what will be the first program in a Grand Design. Charlie Cox plays Matt Murdock, a blind attorney by day, and Daredevil at night. Elden Henson provides comic relief as Foggy Nelson, Murdock’s law partner. I’ve only watched a couple of episodes, but I’m impressed with the attention to detail in providing the background to Matt Murdock’s journey to become a crime fighter despite his blindness. Soon, Netflix will present Jessica Jones, Iron Fist, and Luke Cage. Then, all these MARVEL characters will band together in a mini-series called The Defenders. Disney, which now owns the MARVEL Universe, is betting a lot of money that all of this will work out. After watching Daredevil, I’d say they’re off to a good start. GRADE: B+

George, I hope this comes to Indian cable or at least Netflix does, as is imminent I believe. I liked the Daredevil comics as well the only film version. I thought Michael Clarke Duncan was perfect as The Kingpin.

Prashant, I’m sure Blu-ray and DVD versions of this new DAREDEVIL series will be available. Netflix is partnering with MARVEL (Disney) to provide a platform for all the series that MARVEL is rolling out. It’s a bold move.

I think the “grand design” is for Marvel to take over the world. They are already ubiquitous, with two more movies coming out in May and July.

Jeff, for fans of the MARVEL Universe, this is a Golden Age. And, I’d rather watch a MARVEL series than a Reality TV show.

Bill, I’ve only watched a couple of episodes of DAREDEVIL, but the guy takes a lot of punishment. Of course, he delivers a lot of punishment, too. I’ll watch all 13 episodes of DAREDEVIL.

I would have bet I would find this review here today. It had your name written all over it. Glad the boy in you is still there. I think it makes life so much richer to be able to tap into it.

Patti, you know me well! Daredevil isn’t really a superhero like Thor or the Hulk. He’s more like Batman. Daredevil’s blindness is also an intriguing element.

We have enough trouble keeping up with all the other series we watch without Netflix. We still have a backlog from when we were away.

Jeff, with Netflix releasing all 13 episodes, people (like me) can binge. Also, they’ll be there waiting for viewers months from now. I regret not buying Netflix stock when it was down. Netflix moved up again this week.

George – I have only seen the first episode but I did like it a lot. Like you, I will do all 13 pretty fast.

We have the cheap Netflix, just 1 DVD at a time, no streaming, so we couldn’t binge watch if we wanted to. Right now we’re watching Midsomer Murders DVDs, 1 at a time, in random order, at the rte of about 1 a week.

I have liked some of the Daredevil comics, but probably wouldn’t watch a film or miniseries. I’m with Bill on being tired of Marvel movie stuff, and I’ve only seen two of them.

Rick, given the entertainment options available, I find the MARVEL movies and TV shows deliver quality action and adventure. The production values are good and the casting is solid. Netflix is investing in above average series with MARVEL products.
