DESPICABLE ME 3

Despicable Me 3 follows the template of the previous two hit animated movies. In this latest installment, reformed villain Gru discovers he has a twin brother, Dru (both voiced by Steve Carell). The villain the twins need to bring down is a wacky 1980s former child star, Balthazar Bratt (voiced by SOUTH PARK creator Trey Parker). If you’re in mood for a silly Summer movie, Despicable Me 3 fits the bill. Sadly, the Minions don’t have much to do. GRADE: B

You liked it better than our paper did. I think the review also lamented the lack of minions.

The movie that’s getting a lot of buzz is Baby Driver.

Maggie, the latest issue of THE NEW YORKER gave BABY DRIVER a lukewarm review. I might see it when it arrives at the $2 show.

They gave THE MINIONS their own movie and they blew it. BABY DRIVER got good reviews elsewhere. I am going to see THE BEGUILED though.

I want to see that. I’ve seen him on Colbert, etc and it looks so good.

I remember the male lead from Franklin and Bash

“the $2 show.” ??? What do you have a time machine?

We’re re-watching THE CIVIL WAR, Ken Burns magnificent mammoth (6 CD) documentary. We both watched it when it was initially broadcast, but haven’t seen it since, and we’d forgotten a lot of content. Really excellent. Now I’m tempted to read Shelby Foote’s THE CIVIL WAR: A NARRATIVE, but it’s three volumes. I may try Bruce Catton’s Civil War trilogy, which I’ve had on the shelf for 40 years, unread.

Rick, I agree with you. Great series. I did read one of Bruce Catton’s trilogies years ago. I started the Foote but it was too long for me.

Jeff, I’m a fan of all of Ken Burns’s documentaries. After WAR & PEACE, I’m not in the mood for any massive reading projects for a while.

Rick, a few weeks after they open, movies around here migrate to a small theater called the FOUR SEASONS. On Tuesdays, movies are $2 (for Senior Citizens). On Tuesdays, all the movies at the Regal Theaters are $5.
