DETROIT LIONS VS. BUFFALO BILLS

The Detroit Lions (5-8) take on the hapless Buffalo Bills (4-8) in another meaningless NFL game. The Bills have signaled that they intend to play more rookies and 2nd year players in these final games of the 2018 season. In effect, these are “Preseason” games as players audition for jobs for 2019. The weather for the game should be mild: 40 degrees with a slight breeze. Steve Tasker, former Buffalo Bill Special Teams ace and now a commentator for CBS Sports, said the reason the Bill have THREE home games in December harks back to last season’s highly rated “Snow Game.” The NFL was hoping for another Winter Wonderland game like that one, but so far it’s snowed here on weekdays, not weekends. How will your favorite NFL team perform today?

Favorite? I guess the Detroit Lions by default. This will be two mediocre teams going at it. Detroit hasn’t had a great football team since the late 50’s. Never been close to being in a superbowl. I’ll read a book and watch the game when something looks interesting.

The 11-2 Saints journey to North Carolina to take on the 6-7 Panthers, who have been a very inconsistent team this season. The Saints have already clinched the NFC South, but winning their remaining games will give them a better shot at home-field advantage and a bye week in the playoffs. I suppose it will depend on which Panthers team shows up today.

Deb, like you I’m confused by the Carolina Panthers. On paper, they’re a Playoff team. But their performances this season have been erratic. The Saints are favored by 6 points which sounds about right.

The Giants face Tennessee at home this afternoon, and it will be cold (39), windy, with periods of rain. They are a one point underdog, but if they continue their recent better play, they could beat the not-so-Titans.

The Jets almost pulled off the big upset against Houston yesterday, despite missing two straight extra points, but ran out of gas at the end.

Seahawks play the 49ers, and should win. That will guarantee a playoff spot in a season that was supposed to be reshuffling and rebuilding. So once again no high draft choices, but maybe a chance to win one playoff game. The situation in the AFC is more interesting.

Rick, I’m impressed Pete Carroll was able to alter the Seahawks (who looked a lot like the hapless Buffalo Bills at the beginning of the season) into a likely Playoff team. I’m rooting for the Detroit Lions today. A loss today would put the Bills into the Top Ten of the 2019 First Round NFL Draft Picks.

So the Bills pulled it out. Seattle just tied the 49ers.

The Giants were never in the game. Their play was as ugly as the weather. The offense was non-existent. Pathetic display, much like the Steelers’ kicker.

BAH. I’m sure there were more holding calls made in that game than most, and most of them in critical times against the Seahawks, while facemask and roughing calls were ignored. If the Seahawks can’t beat the 49ers, they don’t deserve to be in the playoffs. BAH.
