The only 2025 movie I saw in the theatre was SUPERMAN, ok but mixed. I try to stay away from anything with Cruise. Saw JURASSIC WORLD: REBIRTH and ACCOUNTANT 2 on Blu-ray, ditto the awful A WORKING MAN and THE ALTO KNIGHTS, neither of which I had enough interest to follow all he way through. You might say I need to watch a better class of movies and you’d be right, except that most of those on the 2025 slate leave me cold.

Maggie, Katie has read all five Thursday Murder Club books and Diane read the first one before the Netflix version appeared. We’re all eagerly anticipating the next film in the series.

Alice bought into Netflix in part for K-drama, and also was impressed with KPDH…I will try it. Though I’m digging into what I like on Netflix and TCM and HBO Max while awaiting season continuation on US commercial nets, and catching the PBS network and public syndies on PBS stations (while they last) I have missed on the three station groups we can see here.

Essentially, favored crime drama TV this past year:

I definitely don’t have access to all the streaming services and cable channels…so most Britbox items that aren’t shared, for example, are getting past me, so far.

    TASK, HBO

SHERLOCK & DAUGHTER, the CW (though HBO now has the series on demand. like CW, as well…amusing and/or saddening that no one more committed to drama in broadcast than CW picked it up for the US market, but the CW as a result was able to play their best series I’ve seen thus far). I’m also fond of WATSON (CBS), so am a sucker for changes rung on Sherlockiana.

Even though HBO showed it at the end of last year (UK’s Channel Four didn’t broadcast it till this year), I’ve just caught up with GET MILLIE BLACK (a nod to GET CHRISTIE LOVE, I more than half suspect) and would rate it among the best crime drama I’ve seen this year.

DOC (Fox) verges on crime drama, and
THE CLEANING LADY (Fox for the US version) is almost evenly divided between medical, crime, family and political drama–and wrapped up this year.

The shtick can get a bit heavy on ELSBETH and MATLOCK (both CBS), but I’m still enjoying them.

I like WILL TRENT (ABC), and will watch and usually be annoyed by aspects of HIGH POTENTIAL (ABC).

Similarly the PBS imports and public broadcasting syndication imports, for as long they can last in the current climate. Most I’ve seen date from before ’25.

(List members mostly panned KAREN PIRIE): I like Val McDermid’s writing, but haven’t seen the KAREN PIRIE tv series, and now that I can, I’ll check into it.
