This recently released Blu-ray collection of Marilyn Monroe’s movies should give those of you who haven’t upgraded to Blu-ray the excuse you’ve been looking for to buy one. Here are some of Marilyn’s most iconic movies in hi-def sharpness and color. It’s like watching these films again for the first time. If you don’t want to stimulate the economy like I did, get your local public library to buy this wonderful set!
Book 1:
Disc 1: Gentlemen Prefer Blondes
Disc 2: How to Marry a Millionaire
Disc 3: River of No Return
Disc 4: There’s No Business Like Show Business
Book 2:
Disc 5: The Seven Year Itch
Disc 6: Some Like it Hot
Disc 7: The Misfits
Some good stuff there. I’ve watched THE MISFITS repeatedly and enjoyed it quite a lot.
These new Blu-ray versions are eye-popping, Dan. Well worth it!
SOME LIKE IT HOT has to rank in my top ten films. She really nailed that role.
It was like seeing SOME LIKE IT HOT for the first time when I watched it in Blu-ray, Patti.
In some ways my favorite of her roles was Miss Caswell the “graduate of the Copacabana School of Dramatic Art.” in ALL ABOUT EVE. It was a bit role but she made it memorable.
“Why do they always look like unhappy rabbits?”
Marilyn could turn a bit role into a memorable role, Jeff. That’s Star Power.
I thought the line was “nappy rabbits”
I’ve never liked most of these films much, especially SOME LIKE IT HOT, which most people think is funny and clever. The SEVEN YEAR ITCH is okay, but of them, I like RIVER OF NO RETURN and THE MISFITS the best.
And let’s not forget Marilyn’s role in the movie shot in my hometown, Rick…NIAGARA.
I go along with Rick on SOME LIKE IT HOT…some like it when, if anyone was to mistake men for women, that the transvestites actually look remotely like women. Ever. And the rest of the film, probably aside from Monroe, is pretty much on the Hoo Boy level. But I like Monroe, usually.
When Marilyn appears on the screen, I’m transfixed, Todd.
Cheers George – I’ve got all of these on DVD but in a couple of cases it looks like the Blu-ray may be a considerable improvement (especially THE MISFITS) so am really tempted to get this one.
Give in to temptation, Sergio! The Blu-ray versions of Marilyn’s movies are way better than the lo-res DVDs.
PS Would be nice to see a second box with an HD version of NIAGARA, which would be really nice, and maybe with BUS STOP, another favourite.
I’m sure we’ll see a second set of Marilyn movies in Blu-ray soon, Sergio!
