This just released 9-CD box set includes Bob Dylan’s first eight studio albums: Bob Dylan, The Freewheelin’ Bob Dylan, The Time They Are A-Changin’, Another Side Of Bob Dylan, Bringing It All Back Home, Highway 61 Revisited, Blonde On Blonde, John Wesley Harding. These albums were originally recorded in monaural, and then years later, re-mixed for stereo. Like the mono box set of the complete Beatle catalog last year, these remastered discs sound superb. If you’re a Bob Dylan fan, this is must-have box set of classic recordings. They never sounded so good! Long live MONO!
I don’t think I even remember what mono sounded like. I do remember his voice was easier to understand then.
These albums hold 80% of Dylan’s best music, Patti. Dylan recorded a dozen more albums, but none as good as these.
I remember mono fondly.
With the release of the Beatles catalog in mono and now these Dylan mono releases, mono is making a bit of a comeback, Bill.
Oh-oh. These are my favorite Dylan albums, and this looks expensive.
I picked up my box set at BEST BUY for $96, Evan. Not bad for nine CDs. You might be able to find it cheaper online.
Great video, by the way.
Bill, I remember the cover of an old Phil Spector album that had a banner that read: BRING BACK MONO!
Love the video, and I had a tape deck a lot like that one in the background, a dual head stereo one, but I think the mono boxed sets releases are just gimmicks. Yes, I had the original albums in mono, but the CDs I have, and they sound just great, are in stereo and that’s what I’ll stick with.
Besides, that $100 can be used to buy supplies for the new manse.
No doubt this is a marketing driven move, Rick. But, for the hardcore Dylan fan (which I am), this mono box set is a must-buy. I heard the mono box set of the Beatles catalog is outselling the stereo version.
He’ll go far, that young lad.
I was with him every album of the way, Paul. But I love these early albums best.
Did you catch Dylan’s cameo appearance on Pawn Stars? Dancing With the Stars may be next!
If Dylan dances the way he sings now, he’ll be voted off first, Art!
As a Pawn Stars fan, I saw Dylan’s cameo. I was surprised they talked him into it.
I’ll have to check YouTube or HULU for that PAWN STARS cameo, Bob.
Bob, they probably let Dylan pick a vintage guitar from Rick’s extensive stock.
That would do the trick, Art.
What Bill said. But I love most of these (FREEWHEELIN’, BRINGING IT ALL BACK HOME, HIGHWAY 61) so may have to check it out.
I have multiple CDs (and albums) of these songs, Jeff, but this mono set has the best sound.
