FORGOTTEN MUSIC #37: FINDERS KEEPERS: MOTOWN GIRLS 1961-1967

I’ve been a fan of Motown music since I was a teenager in the Sixties. My love of Motown music never faded. I always have a Supremes or Four Tops or Temptations CD in my car. It’s music that never gets old for me. During a random AMAZON search, Finders Keepers surprisingly popped up. I immediately ordered it. Finders Keepers is an import collection of rare and obscure Motown songs. Some of these songs I vaguely remembered, but most of them were new to me. Finders Keepers has been on heavy rotation on my stereo system. If you’re a fan of Motown music, check this out!

Nice. Like you I’ve been a huge Motown fan since the 60’s. I’ve seen the Supremes, Four Tops, Temptations, Smokey Robinson, Stevie Wonder, Marthat & the Vandellas and Marvin Gaye in concerts at various times over the last 50 years. I have the 1959-1971 Motown collection as well as CDs by most of the individual acts. I must admit I don’t know a lot of these songs but it sounds good.

“The Temptations” and “Four Tops” appeared in concert at one of our casinos a couple weeks ago. I love Motown, but didn’t want to see octogenarians perform.

I know what you mean. All of the original Temptations and all but one of the original Tops are dead, so these are replacements.

Not Motown, but it reminds me of the time we went to see a free concert by some faux ShangriLas downtown. When the lead started talking about “one of our songs” all I could think was, “Girly, you’re 25. The ShangriLas were hits before you were born.”

I only recognize about a third of the titles, probably would recognize more if I heard them. I sure don’t recognize the name Linda Griner. One thing I keep in mind: they don’t call them “B sides” only because they were on the flip side of a hit. Still, it’s tempting. Also, not all Motown songs made it to the west coast, I don’t think, only the ones that made the top 50 songs did.

I looked over the list and didn’t recognize any of them. Looks like a compilation of B sides of low-ranking album filler. I liked the Motown stuff, too, but if Buttered Popcorn is an exemplar, I’ll pass.

Okay, George, here I go off topic. THE NFL DRAFT IS LESS THAN AN HOUR AWAY. Who do you hope the Bills draft? Should they trade down to try for more players, should they fill any specific gap? Would you like to see a new QB? Spill, man, spill.

Rick, the Bills have so many needs that I’m hoping they trade down to get more draft choices to help them rebuild. There are no elite QBs in this Draft. The new head coach of the Bills knows Ryan Nassib from their years at Syracuse University so that might be the Bills pick.
