Elvis was at the height of his powers in 1970. On Stage February 1970 captures Elvis in a Las Vegas performance. This 2-CD Legacy Edition is completely remastered and sounds great. Some obscure songs show up here. Have you heard Elvis sing “Mystery Train” before? I hadn’t. How about “Proud Mary” or “Funny How Time Slips Away”? This collection features Elvis at his best. Don’t miss this one!

Whoever first suggested that white suit didn’t do him any favors. But I think there were lots of performers wearing flamboyant clothes then.
Lady Gaga is taking flamboyance to a whole new level, Patti. Elvis’ white suit looks sedate compared to Lady Gaga’s outlandish outfits.
Elvis jumpsuits were beautiful in person and started a new style many artist copied, from the Osmonds to John Davidson to Neil diamond to Ingleburt Humperdinck and etc, etc, etc. Certainly better than jeans and mismatched outfits. It was his look everyone wanted. He not only wore white, he wore many colors.
Janeen, you’re right about the jumpsuits. My favorite jumpsuit album cover is Neil Diamond’s HOT SUMMER NIGHTS.
Judy and I saw him on his last tour. It was sad. We were thrilled to get to see him, but after the concert, I told Judy that he looked terrible. She wouldn’t hear of it, but a few months later he was dead.
Pictures of Elvis in the last months of his life shows him bloated and drained of all energy, Bill. The “medication” extracted its price.
Not only the medicine but his illness. You should read the book destined to die young, by Sally Hoedel and maybe you will understand how ill he really was and why he had to take the medication he did. Yes, all medicine has side effects. Too bad it was not known at the time about the type of illness he had. He must have felt terrible and frustrated that no one knew what was wrong with him. He gave his heart and soul when he performed, even if he did not feel well and it was obvious, at times, he could hardly breathe. I saw him 21 times, the last time in Vegas in December 1976 and all performances I saw were great. 1976 in Long Beach it was obvious he wasn’t well but his voice was magnificent. When he sang Hurt it was unbelievable. What a shame people believe he was an addict. But God knows the truth.
Janeen, clearly Elvis was “self-medicating” and it lead to disaster.
I like hearing Elvis sing “Mystery Train.”
Elvis sounds great on these remastered CDs, David. And so do the backup singers!
Lady Gaga was a “club kid” and remains a musical child of Madonna Ciccone…the outfits are a lot of the package. Presley just demonstrated the kind of bad taste he did throughout his career…or should I say, obliviousness to taste, as he chose both brilliantly and poorly, from instance to instance, what he would choose to record or otherwise do.
You’re right about Elvis’ inconsistencies, Todd. But, maybe that was a side-effect of the drugs he was taking. Lady Gaga is working the same side of the street that Madonna and David Bowe struck gold on.
…and KISS and Alice Cooper and George Clinton and Parliament/Funkadelic and even to some extent Clinton’s inspirations, Sun Ra and the Solar/etc. Arkestra…
There’s always been a market for glamor in Rock, Todd. Lady Gaga just tapped into it. And, she can sing.
I think Elvis was at the peak of his powers about a decade earlier, George. I was never much of a fan.
Elvis had charisma, Rick. He was called “The King” for a reason. He died tragically, and too young.
