FORGOTTEN MUSIC #6: ON STAGE FEBRUARY 1970 By Elvis Presley

Elvis was at the height of his powers in 1970. On Stage February 1970 captures Elvis in a Las Vegas performance. This 2-CD Legacy Edition is completely remastered and sounds great. Some obscure songs show up here. Have you heard Elvis sing “Mystery Train” before? I hadn’t. How about “Proud Mary” or “Funny How Time Slips Away”? This collection features Elvis at his best. Don’t miss this one!

Whoever first suggested that white suit didn’t do him any favors. But I think there were lots of performers wearing flamboyant clothes then.

Lady Gaga is taking flamboyance to a whole new level, Patti. Elvis’ white suit looks sedate compared to Lady Gaga’s outlandish outfits.

Judy and I saw him on his last tour. It was sad. We were thrilled to get to see him, but after the concert, I told Judy that he looked terrible. She wouldn’t hear of it, but a few months later he was dead.

Pictures of Elvis in the last months of his life shows him bloated and drained of all energy, Bill. The “medication” extracted its price.

Lady Gaga was a “club kid” and remains a musical child of Madonna Ciccone…the outfits are a lot of the package. Presley just demonstrated the kind of bad taste he did throughout his career…or should I say, obliviousness to taste, as he chose both brilliantly and poorly, from instance to instance, what he would choose to record or otherwise do.

You’re right about Elvis’ inconsistencies, Todd. But, maybe that was a side-effect of the drugs he was taking. Lady Gaga is working the same side of the street that Madonna and David Bowe struck gold on.

…and KISS and Alice Cooper and George Clinton and Parliament/Funkadelic and even to some extent Clinton’s inspirations, Sun Ra and the Solar/etc. Arkestra…
