Ghirardelli Double Chocolate Premium Hot Cocoa

The weather in Western New York this weekend is predicted to be frightful! A foot of snow, howling winds, and sub-zero temperatures! Big Orange is all gassed up and ready to snowblow! But after I clear the snow from my driveway and clean off my neighbors’ sidewalks, I love to return to the warmth of my home and enjoy a cup of yummy Ghirardelli Double Chocolate Premium Hot Cocoa. Sure, there are plenty of Hot Cocoa mixes out there, but I’ve come to enjoy the rich, creamy taste of Ghiradelli Double Chocolate Premium Hot Cocoa. What’s your favorite hot cocoa?

We don’t drink cocoa – prefer the chocolate in bits and pieces. 🙂
    Rather OT:
We have the advantage that the Ritter Sport factory is not far from where we live in germany – and they have a factory outlet with fantastic prices!
My wife always is looking for the darc chocolate with 73% cocoa ..
    What’s your favourite chocolate?
I don’t eat too much, but I have a strange craving for white chocolate … 🙂

Looks and sounds good – if only chocolate didn’t have so many little animals that go to in your wardrobe and tighten your clothes – aka calories … 🙂

I can’t remember the last time I had hot cocoa, so I am not one to ask about brands. Now chocolate (as per Wolf’s question), that’s another thing. We’ve been eating mostly Lindt and Godiva lately. Jackie, as probably mentioned, is a dark chocolate lover, while I have always preferred milk, preferably with almonds (though other nuts are good too). If you go to a Godiva store in a mall and join their “club” you get a free piece of yummy chocolate once a month. Usually we stock up on several bars at 4 for $10 when we do that. Of course, at the moment we can’t get to a store at the mall or even the ones in Midtown, so we have big bags of Lindt and have one a day.

Good luck with the storm! I’m sure Big Orange is ready. The latest forecast looks like we could luck out as far as snow goes, as it should be warm enough in the city that we get mostly rain. Even if there is snow in Midtown, down here by the water where we are is likely to change to rain. The problem will come afterwards, with a very rapid plummet in temperature Sunday afternoon, a freeze, followed by well below zero wind chills all day Monday.

We’re not planning on leaving the house from this evening until at least Tuesday. We have stocked up with plenty of food.

Jeff, it’s snowing right now, but the real storm is supposed to hit us this evening and continue to dump snow on us overnight. If over a foot of snow falls, some older roofs will cave in because of the weight. Happens every year! I’m a fan of Lindt and Godiva, too!

I am really worried about the ice, especially as stupid people insist on getting on the roads anyway. The prediction for ice problems is well north of us, thankfully, but if there is a quick freeze we will probably get some. Right now we are at 34, going to 37, and I’ve seen forecasts as high as 48 tomorrow! I hope they are right. The snow (or whatever) is not supposed to arrive in New York until tonight.

Jeff, like you I hate ice, too. So many of our friends have fallen on ice over the years. One of our friends walked out of his house to his trunk and fell on the icy driveway, hitting his head. He passed out and woke up with a concussion! He somehow managed to drive himself to the ER, but he was a mess for weeks!

I’m forted up here in advance of the coming snow, but what I most fear is Ice — the kind that brings down power lines for days. I have the generator ready, and a good supply of chocolate, firewood, water, comic books, and zombie-repellant.

Only drink it at coffee shops on occasion. Not sure why. We have about four inches now and it’s due to snow until tonight. Good luck!

Patti, the weather-guessers here are predicting a foot of snow by Sunday afternoon. And, with the high winds, we may get some additional Lake Effect snow since Lakes Erie and Ontario are both warm. Stay safe!

Jackie wants to know what this does to your sugar level. She used to get Swiss Miss Sugar-Free Fat-Free, which was pretty far from Ghirardelli Double Chocolate! I’ve had Starbucks most recently, not bad but probably less good than yours.

Jeff, a cup of GHIRADELLI DOUBLE CHOCOLATE PREMIUM doesn’t move my glucose level much. Of course, I only drink one cup and that’s usually after I’ve been snowplowing (which burns a lot of glucose!).

I was going to say, 27g is about what I strive to keep my top level.

These days, the chocolate beverage I’m most likely to drink is the Atkins vitamin beverage, which I’ll take chilled or at room temperature. It tastes pretty similar to the Glucerna or dietetic Boost, but is less expensive. And dietetic ice cream.

Will go in for the heavily fat-laden but almost sugar-free Lindt and Ghiradelli ~90% cocoa bars, and one from a more earthy-crunchy competitor whose brand name slips my mind.

I don’t drink hot beverages as a rule—although the occasional hot chocolate is nice. Keurig’s Cafe Escapes brand has a nice dark chocolate variety. I find I have to use two k-cups and use the smallest cup setting (6-oz.?) for both—this then makes a nice rich big mug of chocolate. Whipped cream on top optional, of course.

John’s a dark chocolate fiend. Ghirardelli, Godiva, Dove, you name it. He always has a few squares for his “dessert.”

As for weather, we’re expecting bad winds and rain here today. John and the girls were planning to go on a chartered fishing trip today, but the company that charters the boats cancelled because of how choppy the seas are going to be. Stay safe (and warm!) everyone!

It’s gonna be nuts—black and gold fever everywhere down here. Not sure what we’re doing food-wise tomorrow though. The girls are home for the long MLK weekend (and the now-cancelled fishing trip). Thursday night it was Popeyes. Last night, John grilled salmon & trout, plus we cooked a bunch of frozen samosas we’d bought a while back at the Indian grocery store in Metairie. Tonight it’s skirt steak with chimichuri sauce, along with plantains, black beans, and rice (sort of Cubano style). We’ll figure out something—perhaps chicken wings. All I know is, it’s gonna be insane everywhere in the New Orleans metro area and suburbs tomorrow!

Deb, I share John’s love of dark chocolate! We’re looking at temperatures below zero on Monday with wind chills in the -20 range. We don’t plan to leave the house!

Don’t remember the last time I had hot chocolate. I see what the package says, but I thought “cocoa” was a different thing. However I see the dictionary gives both the cocoa powder and the drink made from it as definitions. My hot drink is coffee, two cups each morning.

So far no snow here this year, it’s been warmer than usual, having gotten below 32 only once. We’ve had a lot of rain, as always, but we need snow for the snow pack, from which our summer water comes.

I wish you all the very best with the ice and snow!
Here near the Balaton lake it’s around freezing, not too much snow – but I might have written about my sister’ problems already:
They live on the outskirts of Munich and had almost a meter of snow…
And now they got their son to shovel the snow from the roof – it’s not built for that kind of load. A few years ago the roof of a sports hall nearby caved in with lots of people inside, some of which didn’t survive!
In the higher parts of the Alps it’s even worse – up to two meters of snow or more, some villages are cut off …
We’ll never forget our holiday 10 years ago when we drove from NYC to Niagara Falls and saw the frozen falls – and that was in March, really hadn’t expected that but it was a fabulous experience!

Lately I have been using my Dunkin Donuts Free Beverage Reward for a XL Dunkaccino – coffee and hot chocolate flavors. As all DD hot beverages, it is very hot. I indulge in the whipped cream. I feel it can get old after awhile, but a change from coffee. I get the XL because the reward is good for all sizes.
