GIRLFRIENDS’ GUIDE TO DIVORCE, SEASON ONE PREMIERE [Bravo TV]

The Fall 2014 TV season has been terrible. The new shows not only were disappointing, several have been canceled after just a few episodes (MANHATTAN LOVE STORY, SELFIE, etc.). Of the new Network TV programs, I’m only still watching THE FLASH and CONSTANTINE. Neither is “Must-See TV.” So I’m giving this new Bravo sit-com a try. Tonight’s first episode of GIRLFRIENDS’ GUIDE TO DIVORCE (10 P.M. EST) stars Lisa Edelstein (who was great in HOUSE as the Hospital Director), Janeane Garolfalo (who has made more Bad Career Decisions than Jennifer Aniston), and Beau Garrett (who I don’t know). I’ll give this series the usual four to five episodes before I make my decision to stay or go. Do any new TV programs entice you?

I heard Garafalo is a Hubbardite. You know where I stand on that. Anyway, I don’t get that channel and wouldn’t watch this under any circumstances.

Since they are touting it as a cross between SEX AND THE CITY and GIRLS I’m obviously not their target audience. Jackie will be recording it but I won’t be watching.

New shows: no. I watch (because Jackie does) MADAM SECRETARY, which is better than I’d expected and hence watchable (other than the awful oder daughter’s stories). But if it were to be canceled tomorrow no one (especially me) would mourn. Jackie also watches SCORPION and is trying to get me to give it another chance, but one episode was the limit. She also watches the annoying and unpleasant HOW TO GET AWAY WITH MURDER, about which I ask: don’t people hate lawyers enough? We’ve watched the teen fantasy show (basically, a grown up Pippi Longstocking in a world where parents barely exist) RED BAND SOCIETY, but that is circling the drain. Fox has stopped production.

The only new show I watch that I like at all is CSI: NEW ORLEANS for obvious reasons. But I must add, if you’re in the Navy and they assigned you to New Orleans you would have to worry, as it is quickly becoming Cabot Cove.

You’re right. Jackie is a television addict but even she is having trouble finding anything to watch. Now that we got our new enhanced DVR she has recorded eight Christmas/Hallmark movies and only filled up 8% of capacity.

Jeff, we only have one Hallmark Christmas move DVRed. Diane has seen most of them. With all the Christmas specials the next few weeks, good TV programs will be scarce.

Sergio, will do. BRAVO is best known for Realty TV series (THE REAL HOUSEWIVES OF ATLANTA, THE REAL HOUSEWIVES OF TRANSYLVANIA, etc.). I’m not sure this scripted drama series will be watchable. But, I’ll report back.

George, the greatest Christmas Movie ever is a film from 1998 called HI-LIFE.

The DVD cover makes it look like a rom-com with 2 people you don’t care about, but the fact is, they’re not even the main characters.

Try it this Holiday Season, then thank me.
