GREEN ZONE is the thriller The Hurt Locker tries to be. Directed by Paul Greengrass, whose work on the last two Jason Bourne movies made them so compelling, GREEN ZONE presents a scathing critique of the invasion of Iraq. The manufactured intelligence, the faulty claims of “weapons of mass destruction,” and cover-ups all enter into the breakneck pacing of this movie. Matt Damon shows off his action-hero chops. If you’re looking for a thrill ride with some serious political implications, go see GREEN ZONE. It will leave you breathless…and pondering. GRADE: A
Mr. Damon has turned into quite the movie star. He’s been a good actor for awhile . I just watched THE TALENTED MR. RIPLEY, again, and he steals the show from some impressive talent. But now, he’s moved into Clooney, Pitt status. I could do without the “serious political implications” and will probably wait until DVD.
GREEN ZONE is the best action movie of 2010 so far, David. I thought it was terrific.
Well, despite this seeming a bit like THE BOURNE LOCKER from previews, I’ll probably give it a tumble…the notion of any war film wi/o political implications is pretty unlikely, but I’ve mostly enjoyed Damon’s work so far (he’s certainly more talented than Pitt, and seems to dig a bit deeper than Clooney, even with the participation in those OCEAN timewasters), and defitnitely have dug Amy Ryan’s work.
I give the credit for the impressive GREEN ZONE to director Paul Greengrass, Todd. Any number of actors could have been plugged into the Matt Damon role, but the style of the movie, like the BOURNE movies, is distinctive.
