WELCH’S DIET PEACH TWIST

As a diabetic, I’m always on the lookout for good tasting beverages that are also low-carb. I found a 12-pack of Welch’s Diet Peach Twist at Sam’s Club for less than a buck a bottle. It tastes great! There are only 10 calories per 14-oz. bottle. Only 20mg of sodium, zero carbohydrates! Welch’s also has Berry Pomegranate and Black Cherry flavors, but I haven’t tried them yet. According to the Welch’s web site, all three beverages are flavored with Splenda. I’ll be going back to Sam’s Club to buy more! Try it, you’ll like it!

Semi off-target, but this reminds me of the billboard that still stands on I-95 in North Carolina: “Get the US out of the UN” sponsored by the John Birch Society.

    Does that still exist?

William Buckley went to war with the John Birch Society to oust them from the Republican Party. He believed the Republicans could not win if they went down the “extremist” road, Jeff.

This stuff looks okay, George, but what is the purpose? It can’t have much in the way of fruit juice or the calories and sugar would be higher, it seems for a buck you get 14 oz. of flavored, sweetened water. There’s lots of that available for less. I applaud your idea, I also am always looking for things without the bad carbs and lower in sugar and sodium. I’d probably go with V-8 (which admittedly has more sodium than this) and get some veggies while I’m at it. Mostly I just drink (tap) water, a cup of joe in the morning, that V-8 in the afternoon sometimes, a diet Dr. Pepper once or twice a week and a glass of NF milk once in a while. The nest news here seems to be NO carbs, as carbs are not your, mine nor anyone’s friend.

Your statement about the Birchers says all that needs to be said about the Elephant party.

My internist suggests I drink 6 glasses of water a day, Rick. Water gets a little boring, so a nice Welch’s Diet Peach Twist tastes great and does the job of keeping me hydrated.

Makes sense. I drink 64 oz. water per day, plus the cup of coffee, plus the V-8. Makes for lots of exercise going to and from, if you get me. This is reduced on road trips. 😉

I’ll have to give this a try.

I don’t like the taste of V-8, Rick. Besides, I get more than enough fruit and veggies every day. I do drink a lot of water, plus unsweetened iced tea in the warm weather, as I’m trying to cut down on diet soda.

Jackie hasn’t tried this one yet, George, but she drinks a lot of the similar-sounding Snapple.

    They aren’t made by Welch’s.

    😉

Yes, I occasionally drink the Diet Peach Snapple ice tea, Jeff. Very nice. Like you, I’m not a big fan of V-8. It contains plenty of sodium. I once found a case of low sodium V-8 at Sam’s Club and it took me months to drink it all. I have a friend who drinks a can of low sodium V-8 every day. He claims it lowers his blood pressure 10-15 points naturally. The regular, high sodium V-8 will raise BP by the same amount.

I drink the low-sodium V-8. It still has more than water, of course, but though I eat some fruits and veggies every day, I try to avoid too much fruit due to the sugar, same as I avoid carrots, which have more sugar than a small candy bar.

Diabetes is all about carbs, Rick. The fewer carbs you take in, the more control you have over your glucose numbers. It’s as simple–and as hard–as that. Carbs taste great so I’m always craving them. You’re right about carrots: they’re assassins!

Hey, George…my comment which recommends Diet Polar sodas and Polar unsweetened seltzers and Hansen’s diet sodas (notably their ginger ale and blueberry soda) seem to have disappeared for some reason. Because they had links?

The Hansen’s stuff, at least the ginger ale, can be found at Trader Joe’s stores and others.

WORDPRESS sometimes zaps comments, Todd. Sorry. It’s a random thing. Western New York is on the Edge of Forever: we don’t have a Trader Joe’s. But I’ll seek out Hansen’s Ginger Ale. I already know about (and love!) Polar Diet sodas and unsweetened seltzers. Thanks for your recommendations!

    Hello George,
I was in Sam’s (Newport News, Va.) on April 14 and was told they have discontinued this drink.

That news really bums me out, Ed. I love Starbucks’ DOUBLESHOTS but all of the Starbucks around here will not carry the “Lite” version with Splenda. And now this! Don’t these manufacturers and retailers know that there’s a tsunami of diabetics who need low-carb food and drinks?

We love this drink too. Sams has discontinued it. argggg. being a diabetic its hard to find drinks I love. There doesn’t need to be a point to everything we put into our body, Richard. Sometimes its just simply something we enjoy. I personally can live with out the coffee. I wonder if enough of us write into SAMS would they bring it back?

Sam’s Club is only concerned about selling TONS of product, Goldie. Welch’s Diet Peach Twist didn’t sell enough so it’s gone from their shelves. I have found it at a Super Wal-Mart nearby, but who knows how long they’ll sell it.

I’ve found Welch’s Diet Peach Twist at a 24-hour Wal-Mart, Mike. But I don’t know how long they’ll carry it.

I’m really bummed about Sam’s dropping the Peach Twist, Betty. It was yummy and low-carb. Those two things rarely go together.

I hope everyone has complained to Sam’s Club. They are getting more like Costco every day when it comes to product consistancy. If you like something, you better buy all they have because next week it will be gone..

I complained, Sharon, but it didn’t do much good. Sam’s Club operates on volume and if an item doesn’t sell “enough” they drop it.

I bought this once at Sam’s Club, but they have not had it ever since the purchase in late February. I need to find another place carrying it as well. It was very refreshing and tasty…

I just found some at a corner store in Champaign, IL. So they are still making it just hard to find who carries it. I know the Sam’s Club in Champaign no longer carries it. But it is still out there.
