Wolf, Labor Day pretty much signals the end of Summer here. This weekend has been busy on the International Bridges as Canadians flock to the U.S. outlet malls for the Labor Day Weekend sales.

Things are different since Jackie (like Diane) doesn’t have to worry about Labor Day signaling Back to School time anymore. We’ll go for some pulled pork or the like today, as summer weather makes perhaps its last comeback with a return to the 80s for a couple of days. Have fun. You can’t go wrong with pizza. We had it a couple of times last week.

Rick, my brother sent a picture of the wildfires in the area. He said you really need rain. Here we were cooler than normal in August, with only one day over 90, and that was August 1.

Wolf, I’ll have a sangria post up in a week or two about my “experiment” to duplicate the perfect sangria I tasted in California.

I’d be glad for this summer to end. We’ve had temps in the hundreds for about 5 days now. Fri night it was in the mid 80’s at midnight. It’s supposed to get down to the 80’s for the next few days.

I’ve been eating only cold foods for a week now, watermelon, pineapple, cold cuts, potato salad and cottage cheese. At Gelsons (an upscale supermarket that has the best deals around on rotisserie turkey thighs, I got what I thought was hatch chili chicken salad, but it was hatch egg salad. When my grandmother lived in Truth or Consequences N. Mexico, she was fairly near Hatch, and I never heard about the chilies. In the last 5-10 years they’ve gotten very popular.

Happy and safe day to all

Maggie, thanks for this info – looked it up on wiki:
      https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/New_Mexico_chile

Hungarians also like peppers and chilis – though my wife and me have to be careful with the hotter ones, scoville larger than 1000 are not for us.

We often get the different types of peppers from our neighbours here.
Still the variety is probably much bigger in Mexico/New Mexico where these peppers were found by the Europeans originally and brought over to Europe.

      PS and a bit OT:
I’ve often realised that Mexican/Middle American and Hungarian tastes are similar …

Wolfe Once a year grocery stores here have a big Hatch Chili festival they sell both mild and hot, I am a wimp when it comes to hot food, so I always ask for mild. thanks for the link.
