    Again–those are private pictures, George!

Just got home from a New Year’s party, so I’m still up. Have a wonderful New Year–enjoying retirement and being a man of leisure.

Two weeks in a row with no pro football post. I guess you gave up on them. Too bad, I was looking forward to the conversation this week. Pfui.

I’m rooting for the Saints, and, of course, the Seahawks. A Washington win would make things interesting too. The now rudderless Bills have a lot of work to do.

Rick, I was focusing on the Alabama vs. Clemson rematch this weekend (did anyone think Washington and Ohio State would win?). I’ll be back into NFL mode next weekend when the Playoffs begin. Today’s Buffalo Bills vs. NY Jets is basically a pre-season game.

Happy New Year to all. I actually went out with some friends for an early dinner then to visit an elderly lady and take her a treat, then home by 9. Fell asleep in my recliner by 1015, woke up and went to bed at 1145. for the first year I can remember, there were no fireworks, gunshots, music or loud people. I guess its the rain that put a damper on the noise.

I’m hoping for a packers win, as well as the saints

Maggie, now that the Buffalo Bills are out of the NFL Playoffs for the 17th year in a row, it’s time to start picking teams to root for next weekend. I like the Packers and the Cowboys in the NFC. New England owns the AFC.

We went out for lunch, brought some dessert home, read and watched movies (as usual – Two for the Road & When Harry Met Sally…), and went to bed at 11:30, though the fireworks outside at midnight were annoying. Last year we were out past midnight at the Jimmy Buffett concert at Barclays Center, with “Margaritaville” being shown live on New Year’s Rockin’ (not) Eve. We got home to find that someone had pulled out and left me a parking spot right outside the building. But frankly, I’d jsut as soon stay home.

If the Redskins beat the Giants this after they are in, and either Green Bay (not very likely) or Detroit is out. If the Giants win, both those more worthy teams will probably make the playoffs. The Giants are set at #5 and will be playing on the road in Green Bay, Seattle, Atlanta or Detroit next week.

We’re getting 4 games this afternoon (including the pathetic Bills-Jets contest).

Jeff, “pathetic” is the right word for Bills vs. Jets. If the Bills were smart, they would tank in this game and improve their NFL Draft position. The Jets have nothing to play for, either.

Happy New Year to everybody, especially to our host George and all of the Kelley family!

Here in Europe the first day of the year is closing soon – the sun already went down, so I’m relaxing in my special chair (where I can have my legs horizontally, so the blood flow is better …) with my new notebook on my lap.

As usual, horrible news comes up (Istanbul e g), well 2017 probably will be as crazy as 2016 or as the Chinese proverb goes:
May you live in interesting times …

So again, many thanks to George for the positive input in our lives and to everybody else too for all those uplifting comments!

Yesterday evening wasn’t too eventfull – we watched on German tv a series of rock concerts, put up the volume because our dog and cat are afraid of the fireworks, especially the noise that started by 8 pm …

The highlights for us were Eric Clapton and J J Cale, Queen and the Rolling Stones free concert in Havanna in March 2016 – really good!

Wolfe I’ve heard a lot about Clapton/Cale. They recorded in Escondido CA (a suburb to the north of San Diego) and have been frequently in our paper. Nice you can see the concerts even if only on tv.

Maggie, my wife is a big fan J J Cale and Eric Clapton – After midnight and Cocaine are among her favourite songs.

Over Christmans we also watched a film with J J Cale and Leon Russell (whom I heard the first time when he was with Joe Cocker – he died last year)):
        Paradise Studios – marvelous!

And I’ve already bought the CDs of that Clapton/Cale concert – they were a Xmas present for my wife!

Where is she hiding all those big fat books 2017 has in store for you, George?

Have a great 2017! Big Orange may have its work cut out for it this winter.

We saw a lot of good acts this year, including the ageless Dion at the refurbished Kings Theater in Brooklyn, where I had my high school graduation in 1965! Also saw the great Darlene Love (with Gary US Bonds) at the St. George Theatre in Staten Island, taking the free ferry from Battery Park and walking up the hill. Another new venue for us was Queens College, where we saw Boz Scaggs. And the small Space at Westbury, where we saw Los Lonely Boys. (Jackie cleverly booked a cheap night at the nearby Marriott so we didn’t have to drive home.)

Some of the other acts we saw: Ronnie Spector (opening for Dion), Steely Dan, Earth Wind & Fire with Chicago, Graham Nash (twice!), Bonnie Raitt, James Taylor with Jimmy Buffett and Sarah McLachlan in a holiday concert at the Barclays Center in Brooklyn, the Dixie Chicks, Jackson Browne with Eddie Vedder & Roseanne Cash, Emmylou Harris with Steve Earle (who we saw twice), Robert Plant and Buddy Miller, George Thorogood with Southside Johnny & the Asbury Jukes, and the Happy Together tour.

Didn’t see much this year due to health reasons. Did see Springsteen, Willie Nile, Ian Hunter and The Dandy Warhols.
Have tickets this year for Willie Nile , Patti Smith and Nick Cave and the Bad seeds.

Steve, Springsteen is also a big idol of ours, we have several videos of him!

A bit OT: Bruce is politically active as you surely know and I had a laugh some time ago when a Trump fan angrily called him “Stinksteen”. 🙂

Jeff, are you trying (successfully …) to make me jealous!

Some of these acts/artists I have loved and been listening to for almost 60 (!)/more than 50 years – songs like “The Wanderer”, “To know him is to love him” , “Da Doo Ron Ron”, “Questions 67&68” etc have been my favourites for such a long time.

It was really funny: Some songs I heard on AFN (the American Forces Network) once and was immediately hooked!

But in the 60s there was no chance of seeing and hearing them in concert in Germany – unless you lived in Hamburg maybe. So I copied them all to my little tape recorder …

I saw Leon Russell in the late 60’s early 70’s in Sacramento Ca. really loved him. I saw Jethro Tull in Chicago and always think of that as one of my favorite concerts. I also saw the Beatles at their first Hollywood Bowl concert. I went with a neighbor down the street, Ferlin Husky’s oldest son. My mother drove us and had a friend of hers who went for the ride. It was a great memory, though we were in the nosebleed seats

During the “British Invasion” we had a company that promoted “dances” it was no more than $2 to go I put posters up at my high school and got in free. I saw Buffalo Springfield and Cream. I haven’t been to a concert in years, I think my last one was James Taylor

Maggie, I saw the Beatles in February of 1964 on their first visit to the States. Two of my friends and I paid $3 each for tickets at Carnegie Hall, where the screaming made it impossible to hear.

We saw Jethro Tull at the Fillmore East. Also saw B.B. King there ca.1969-70.

Of course my brother was at Woodstock. And he saw the Mad Dogs and Englishmen tour with Joe Cocker and Leon Russell, and the Concert for Bangladesh at Madison Square Garden. And about a zillion Grateful Dead concerts.

Jeff, now I envy your brother!

In the 60s we were happy when one of us poor students could buy a record and the others would copy it to tape …

Never saw The Beatles but saw The Stones on their first tour. They played Olympia(a dump where the Red Wings played) but to a less than half filled stadium. Saw Dylan with the Band at Masonic Temple in 65. Great show.. At one time or another I saw everybody I wanted to see except The Doors. Saw The Who and The Kinks numerous times. Saw Hendrix. And The Velvet Underground and Love. Saw Bob Marley on his last tour. Had tickets for his next tour but he cancelled due to illness. And died soon after. Saw every date for Talking Heads and Television.
Some acts I have seen numerous times. Have seen some artists more than 20 times-Springsteen, Lou Reed, Elvis Costello.
Not too many bad shows altho early Lou Reed could be problematic. Had a girlfriend drag me to James Taylor. Wasn’t sure who was going to fall asleep first , Taylor or me. The only time I have ever fallen asleep at a concert. Saw Chicago once because Springsteen opened(this was before Springsteen broke big). Half the audience left early into the Chicago set which obviously ticked them off. They were terrible anyway with a horn section off key all night. Saw Fleetwood Mac at a small club when they were led by Peter Green. Didn’t make Woodstock-too far away for me. Plus not big at camping out.
