Jerry, the New Year in North Tonawanda starts out with 13 degrees–windchill temp -2 degrees–and four inches of light, fluffy snow. I’ll be firing up Big Orange to snow blow the driveway and our neighbors’ sidewalks.

    Happy New Year!

Jackie said someone set off a few fireworks at ten before midnight and that was it. I slept through it.

More packing for the trip today.

Jeff, like you and Jackie, Diane and I headed for bed early after toasting the approaching New Year with some Asti. Patrick is in Houston at a New Year’s Eve Party hosted by a college friend. Katie baked a cake and took it to a New Year’s Eve Party hosted by her former boss. It’s cold and snowy here on the first day of the New Year.

Fred, “may it be better than 2025” is setting the bar low. ICE raids, bombing boats, phony promises to end Inflation and bring prices down, tariffs, lies, lies, and more lies. I’m expecting more of the same in 2026.

Happy New Year to all! I did make it to midnight last night to toast the New Year, then slept like a log until a squirrel decided to bash on my bedroom window at 7:30 AM. Today is traditionally my “take down the Christmas decorations” day—so I will be starting that chore after consuming a fortifying breakfast and doing the word games (Wordle, Quordle, etc.). I will don my headphones and listen to music or a podcast as I go about the process of deconstructing the holidays.

Ich wünsche allen hier ein frohes Neues Jahr – und vor allem Gesundheit!
Since it’s below zero Celsius here we stayed inside, watched some old movies on tv and went to sleep around 11 pm – to be woken by some fireworks, luckily they stopped half an hour past midnight.
Just read that there were many accidents again, two young men died from their bombs and many lost one or more fingers from there exploding firecrackers.
Many Eurpean cities now forbid firecrackers in their centers but still …

Happy New Year from cold and somewhat snowy Manitoba. Brought in the new year a little early last night and went to bed and read an Adrian McKinty novel in the Sean Duffy series. Chapters Indigo had a 30% off hardcovers sale so I bought a couple of sports books, but didn’t find any fiction I wanted. Don’t know how many books I read this year, but it must have to close to 100. However, due to a computer crash, I lost my mini-reviews for 2025. Have read 40 since that happened with three-and-one-half the highest in my four stars rating system. I enjoyed the new biography of the late writer Jim Harrison titled Devouring Time. A big disappointment was Randy Wayne White’s latest in the Doc Ford series title Tomlinson’s Wake. A new author I enjoyed was Neil Lancaster, who sets his series about a detective sergeant in Scotland.

We didn’t have any alcohol last night. Surprisingly since another high school classmate in our lunch group gave me 2 bottles from her (recently closed) winery. We had the Merlot a couple of weeks ago and though I’m not a wine expert, it was tasty. We may try the other tonight.

Happy and safe and sane new year

In Europe Asti Spumante is a very sweet kind of sparkling wine with around half the alcohol content of champagne eg.
        Is this what you’re drinking?
        Enjoy!

Wolf, we like Cinzano Asti Spumante and Martini & Rossi Asti Spumante. We like the taste and the lower alcohol content.
