HAPPY THANKSGIVING & BUFFALO BILLS VS. DALLAS COWBOYS

Happy Thanksgiving to you and your families! We’ll be enjoying the traditional turkey, stuffing, gravy, massed potatoes, green beans, cranberry jello salad, and green salad (but no romaine!). Desserts: apple pie, pumpkin pie, pecan pie, and lemon cake. What’s on your Thanksgiving table today?

I wish everybody a wonderful holiday – but don’t overeat on whatever your girls/wives bring from the kitchen!
Here in Europe this is just a regular workday but since it’s my wife’s birthday we’ll go to our favourite restaurant which is called “Én Anyosom” – My Mother in Law …
    I still haven’t decided yet:
A steak or pork tenderloin (sous vide) or goose liver …

    Go, Bills!

The usual here – turkey (breast only, Jackie doesn’t do dark meat), stuffing with chestnuts, roasted potatoes, corn, cranberry jello mold, and chocolate pudding pie for dessert. We don’t do pumpkin of any sort,

Happy Thanksgiving to the Kelleys and everyone.

Happy Thanksgiving everyone! I’m grateful for many things, but especially this year that all the repairs in our house are finally completed after that tree took out the laundry room and a good portion of our kitchen. And I love my new Whirlpool washer & dryer—although I daresay they won’t last over 30 years like our previous Kenmores did.

John brined a turkey overnight and will be cooking on the Big Green Egg all day. I’m still a bit wobbly from my recent bout with pneumonia, but the girls will help me with our traditional side dishes: mashed potatoes, creamed spinach, stuffing, and gravy. In addition, this year we’re also having a green bean casserole. I had bought all the ingredients to make it for a work pot luck, then I got sick and wasn’t even at school on the day it was scheduled. So, we’re trying that out this year, but not sure if it will become a favorite or we’ll ever make it again. I used to make pecan and pumpkin pies from scratch every Thanksgiving, but this year the store provided them.

And we’re excited for the Saints game today. They go to Atlanta to take on the Falcons. If the 9-2 Saints can beat the 3-8 Falcons, they will probably have the NFC South wrapped up.

Deb, Patrick and Katie are assisting Diane more and more each THANKSGIVING. Katie baked all the pies! Patrick, who is a vegan, prepared several meatless dishes in addition to our traditional ones. Yes, we have a lot to be thankful for. But. I’m not optimistic the Bills can win in Dallas today. Go Saints!

Probably if you wanted a 30 year washer & dryer, you needed to get Speed Queen, which are the toughest, longest lasting. Your Whirlpool will give you good service, I’m sure, just maybe not as long.

Take it easy today! You deserve it.

I have no idea what is on the menu for today. Jessamyn is hosting today and, since she’s a great cook I have no fears. I suspect I will eat my body weight in goodies and will have be rolled to the car at the end of the festivities.

Happy thanksgiving to you and Diane, George, and to the entire motley crew that follows your blog!

We’re trying to cut back some on the carbs here, so no potatoes or rolls, just turkey with gravy, stuffing, cranberry-orange sauce, steamed green beans for a side. In past years we’ve had no pumpkin pie (Barbara’s favorite) because I don’t like it, but this year we have it. I tried a slice last night and to my surprise it was pretty good.

It’s just above freezing here, so no walks or outside stuff, so maybe some NFL. The first game comes on in just a few minutes, but I will probably skip it and just watch the Bills game later.

Rick, THANKSGIVING is a minefield of carbs. I have to pick my dinner selections carefully. Pecan pie–my favorite–will be on the menu. I’ll be satisfied with a sliver of it. After losing to the Patriots, I’m sure the Cowboys will be amped up to beat the Bills today!

Rick, I find the only way I can stand pumpkin pie is with plenty of whipped cream! We made a sugar-free chocolate pudding pie and real whipped cream.

My wife also likes pumpkin, it’s a Hungarian staple.
I’m not such a big fan but her pumpkin soup is fantastic. The base is roasted pumpkin, goes into the mixer and then cream is added.
And then on top of the dish some roasted pumpkin seeds – fantastic!
        PS:
For lunch I had the tenderloin with home made noodles (like gnocchi) and a mushroom sauce – wonderful!
My only “problem” was that I couldn’t have a glass of wine because Hungary has a zero tolerance policy there and I had to drive.
        Rather OT:
We were invited by an old friend from the USA. She wanted to spend her retirement time here, bought a little house near the lake – but then she got cancer …
In the end she decided that treatment in the USA would be better and went back to NYC, just came here for a few weeks to say goodby, and do the “paper war”, the sale of her house, closing of her account etc.

I love pumpkin pie and had a big slice covered in whipped cream! I stuffed and roasted the turkey, made the mashed potatoes, and fixed the Stovetop stuffing! I also got the jellied cranberry sauce out of the can using my traditional method: Open one end and punch a hole in the other, then blow on the hole and the cranberry sauce slides right out!

    Not too much OT:
Just read in a British newspaper that you’re having really ugly weather all over the USA this weekend.
Hope you all mange this well!
