And a gluttonous Thanksbuddy to you.
Bob, I’m about to drive Patrick and Katie to the Start of the Turkey Trot, a 5-mile race. About 14,000 other runners will be there. Happy Thanksgiving to you and your family!
Barbara ran in a 5K Turkey Trot when she lived in Denver.
Rick, Patrick finished the 5-mile Turkey Trot in 51 minutes. Katie was right behind him.
Please don’t overeat!
Anybody got any plans yet for Black Friday?
PS and a bit OT:
Even here in Hungary the big stotes like Tesco now advertise Black Friday with lots of offers – I’m still wondering whether Hungarians understand the idea and where it comes from. Crazy how some “memes” travel all around the world …
I’ll have to buy a new computer soon but haven’t yet decided when or what – before or after Xmas …
Wolf, we avoid Black Friday. Too much craziness! I do buy bargains on Cyber Monday.
I’m down with a sore throat so I’m staying home. But don’t worry about me. Just go out and have a good time for yourselves. I’ll be just fine all alone here wracked with pain & fever. You just have fun & don’t even think about me……
Dan, if you were Hungarian you would drink alarge glass of “pálinka” or two (really strong fruit spirit, apple, pear or plum …) and then you’d be on your feet again!
Get well soon!
Dan, I suggest a couple glasses of Scotch. After that, you won’t feel a thing! Happy Thanksgiving and I hope you feel better soon!
Happy Birthday to me!
Wolf, I’m with George. We celebrate Black Friday by refusing to participate in the madness, just stay home and have leftover turkey and stuffing and potatoes and cranberry Jell-o mold and chocolate pudding pie.
Have a great one, George (and everyone).
Jeff, you and I know that Black Friday is just marketing. We can get anything we want cheaper online.
Have a fantastic food and family day, George!
Jerry, the same to you and your family! We have temperatures in the low 40s with light rain. But, it’w warm and cozy in our house. And the scent of turkey in the oven is amazing!
As usual, my private photos manage to get into the public sphere. I really should stop sharing them!
We brined a turkey yesterday and this morning John cut it up and put it in the “Big Green Egg” smoker. I’ll be making all the side dishes: mashed potatoes, dressing, sweet potatoes, creamed spinach, and gravy. I already made a pumpkin and a pecan pie for dessert. Of course, we don’t eat until 3:00 pm! Can’t wait!
We do not go shopping on Black Friday–stay away from the crazies! We’re actually going to the horse races at the New Orleans Fairgrounds tomorrow. If I win the pick-six, we’ll be eating at Commanders Palace for dinner!
Happy Thanksgiving everyone…and Happy Birthday, Jeff!
Deb, you and your husband John really know how to live! We’re having turkey, stuffing, mashed potatoes, green beans, cranberry salad, and gravy. For dessert: apple pie, pumpkin pie, pecan pie, and cranberry bars. Yum!
Happy Thanksgiving to the Kelleys, and happy birthday to Jeff!
Bill, Happy Thanksgiving to you and your family, too! Have a safe trip back to Alvin!
Thanks Happy Thanksgiving everyone! Happy BD Jeff!! I’ll be going to a friends house at noonish. I’ve already done some online Black Friday shopping last night, and will venture out early Fri (as early as I wake up). My paper isn’t here yet, but I subscribe to a black friday newsletter, so was able to get most of what I need online. Target has a couple of DVD’s that are only going to be in the store, so I’ll have to go there. Also going to check Kohls for some Fiesta Ware I might actually use (I have a set from an aunt from probably the 40’s or 50’s) I will be stopping at CVS today on the way to El Cajon if they’re open.
Wolf, Palinka sounds yummy especially pear and plum! I bet it has a real punch
When I am offered some I always make sure that there’s some “watery stuff” available – like beer …
Home distilled spirits (aka moonshine) are very popular in Hungary – it’s not illegal! The hardware shops sell the necessary machinery every autumn.
But … they are usually over 50% volume (i e more than 100% proof) and Hungarians offer them in large glasses – almost like Russians, so I have to follow each sip with some water or beer.
On a German-USA forum we’re just having a discussion on the side dishes that go best with a turkey – there’s everything from mashed potatoes of course to green beans, Brussels sprouts and …
Maggie, Happy Thanksgiving! Good luck at TARGET, hope you get those DVDs!
ps for those of you who have the plenti program available, rite aid has some good ways to earn points, some of which are for gift card purchases.
I use gift cards for shopping on line, etc. I get money off gas, at a local supermarket(vons, part of safeway), and the last 2 fillups I’ve gotten $1 off a gallon and save $18 and $20. I have 70c off now due to gift card purchases. I use my cc to buy the gift cards and get double points on grocery store purchases, then get prepaid visas.
In vegas, I had a prepaid visa that I earned by participating in a mock trial, and used it shopping, etc.
And to pay for the buffet at the Wynn! Yum.
Jeff, Happy Birthday!
Maggie, I just received a $50 Starbucks gift card for participating in a survey.
Happy Thanksgiving to you and Diane and your offspring, George. It’s just 9:30 here, the first football game is about to start. Barbara has gone to the club (24 hour fitness) as she does every weekday. The whole turkey thing is hours away.
We go out to shop on Black Friday when we need something big that’s especially discounted, such as a washer and dryer, or a refrigerator. It’s not really worth it for small items, I don’t think. The “crazies” as someone above put it are really over hyped by the media, just don’t go at opening time. This year there’s nothing we need, so we’ll stay home tomorrow.
Happy birthday, Jeff, hope you have a good day.
Rick, Happy Thanksgiving! I’m sure you’re going to enjoy a feast today!
Thanks to all. The turkey, stuffing, roasted potatoes and cranberry jello mold were great and I’m waiting for enough room to fit in my birthday chocolate pudding pie.
Jeff, chocolate pudding pie! Yummy!
Happy birthday, Jeff. I thought it’s tomorrow! My granddaughter Sofia’s sixth birthday is today!
Linda made something simple for dinner: reservations!
Bob, Linda is very wise.
I think it is five days after your birthday, Cap’n.
And belated Happy Birthday.
Thanks, Jeff! If your birthday is the 24th you share it with Sofia! There’s a slight difference in ages, however!
George, I hope you and your family had a wonderful Thanksgiving. I’m sorry I forgot to wish you and everyone on this page.
Prashant, we appreciate your kind wishes! Thanksgiving was wonderful!
