HARRY POTTER AND THE DEATHLY HALLOWS (PART 1) in 3D

Harry, Ron, and Hermione chased by Death Eaters! The Dark Lord and his minions taking over the Ministry of Magic! Muggles killed! Mixed blood citizens (“mud-bloods) persecuted! There’s no doubt that Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows is the darkest of the Harry Potter movies. The movie does nothing to bring newbies up to speed, so if you’re new to the Harry Potter series, this is NOT the place to start. And, even though I read the book, I confess I didn’t remember large swatches of the plot. The movie sags in the middle while Harry, Ron, and Hermione are in the wilderness. But when there’s action, and the action comes suddenly, the special effects are first-rate. When Harry opens the Horcrux and releases its evil, I nearly jumped out of my seat! Of course, the movie ends in a cliffhanger and we’ll have to wait until July 2011 to see the conclusion. GRADE: B

The book sagged in the same section, George. We’re going to wait a couple of weeks until the kids have all seen it and go during the week when they’re in school.

The Regal Theaters here have HARRY POTTER on so many scenes, the showing I saw wasn’t crowded at all, Jeff. Maybe 20 people, no kids. Of course I saw it at 1:10 P.M. yesterday.

I have most Fridays off, Jeff. Diane was at a retirement luncheon (19 retirees meet for lunch every month) and so I headed for the Regal Theater. I see HARRY POTTER made $24 million just from the midnight showings!

The baby and I saw it opening day (her treat, it was my b’day) and there not only was a modest crowd but they were all quiet. I pretty much agree with your assessment, George. And I miss the scenes at Hogwarts.

I told my daughter that it seemed possible to me that there would be more movies even if there weren’t any more books.

Warner Brothers is probably kicking themselves for not making all the Harry Potter movies DOUBLE movies, Bob. Yes, I can see more movies and spin-offs. The audience is there!
