Diane and I try to support local theater whenever we can. We saw a fun and silly play over the weekend, It Shoulda Been You, based on a 2015 Broadway play directed by David Hyde Pierce and starred Tyne Daly, features plenty of humor and complications. If you’re a fan of wedding comedies (like BRIDESMAIDS and FATHER OF THE BRIDE) you’ll love It Shoulda Been You. Of course, the two families involved don’t like each other. There’s an ex-boyfriend lurking around trying to disrupt the proceedings. Misunderstandings and bizarre behavior threaten the proceedings. The music isn’t memorable. It serves to advance the plot mostly. But the local group we saw had a lot of fun with this play. The mostly Senior Citizen audience enjoyed it, too. GRADE: B
Not for me. Senior Citizens will like anything that gets them out of the home.
Steve, you’re right about the target audience for this comic play. Mildly entertaining.
Jackie was tempted to see it on Broadway because Tyne Daly was in it, but in the end we didn’t. It sounds moderately fun.
Hey, Steve. Stay off my lawn or I’ll hit you with my walker!
Jeff, the tickets only cost us $22 (Senior Citizen discount!) and at that price, the play was well worth it!
That sounds like something I’d really enjoy. I’m looking forward to the Jimmy Buffet musical that will preview at the La Jolla Playhouse (if I can get tickets)
and trying to get tickets to Hamilton.
Lin-Manuel Miranda had a promotion to raise money for planned parenthood, and the winners got 2 tickets to see Hamilton (all expenses paid) in NYC, SF, and chicago. Sadly, I didn’t win. Now he’s doing the same thing to see it in SF with his parents, but different charities. I’ll enter that as well
Maggie, HAMILTON is rumored to be coming to Buffalo in 2018. We keep checking the Broadway ticket availability, but HAMILTON is sold out for months!
so much for the gop boycott of hamilton
Maggie, GOP and BOYCOTT don’t go together.
Ain’t that a typical “boycott effect”?
Some crazy poltician/priest/doctor/whatever calls for a boycott which makes the thing even more interesting for the people?
Wolf, boycotting a popular Broadway play isn’t in the cards.
it’s been sold out long before the boycott was called I think they just laughed when they heard it
It’s working as well as the “boycott” of Starbucks and Nordstrom’s. Jackie likes to do her part – whenever we’re at the mall she stops in at Nordstrom’s and buys a couple of giant chocolate chip cookies!
