Jeeves and the Yule-tide Spirit By P.G. Wodehouse

jeeves and the yule-time spirit
If you want to get into the Christmas spirit, I recommend this wonderful story from 1927. Bertie plans to Winter in Monte Carlo, but an unexpected invitation leads to Bertie and Jeeves spending Chirstmas at Skeldings Hall, home of Lady Wickham and her daughter Bobbie. Sir Roderick Glossop, father of Bertie’s former fiance, Honoria, and wily Tuppy Glossop (who tricked Bertie into falling into the pool at the Drone’s Club) are also in attendance to stir up trouble. I can’t think of a more perfect story to capture the wonder and fun of the season (unless in involves mistletoe!). Ho, ho, ho to you all!

Jeff, you’re right: the clever names Wodehouse comes up with is one of his comic secrets! By the way, it’s 60 degrees here! I feel like I’m in San Diego rather than Buffalo in late December!

And it’s a bit under 60 here in San Diego and I’m cold (though still not turning on the heat)

I’m listening to a wodehouse cd I got from the library and enjoying it (Stiff Upper Lip, Jeeves) Bertie’s Aunt Dahlia refers to gussie as spinkthrottle, or something similar.

Maggie, I listened to Wodehouse Audiobooks (thanks to Art Scott!) when I was in Rehab after my knee replacement surgeries. Wonderful listening!

Thanks for the tip! I’m having family over for Christmas Eve Dinner and I’m grilling out steaks—in Ohio–in December!

Rick, my brother and his wife host Christmas so we can expect ham, Polish sausage, ambrosia, green salad, Shepard’s pie, mashed potatoes, and green beans. Desserts: apple pie, pecan pie, jello cake, and lemon cake.

Dan, if I had a grill I could be grilling, too! We might opt for a picnic instead. It’s like Summer here! But, of course, there’s no such thing as Global Warming!

We’re supposed to shatter the record of 63 by 10 degrees today, and tomorrow could break another record if it hits 66 as predicted.

Good thing there’s no such thing as climate change.

I’ll have to look up to see which book the story is in. Thanks. It’s due to the comments on this page, and the drones club on facebook I’m treating myself to wodehouse again, so big thanks.

the drones club is on facebook. They had a gathering this year, and will have one in Wash DC in 2017. I heard about this year’s too late, but hope to attend in 2017
