JUDY CRIDER, R.I.P.

BillJudyCrider
I met Judy Crider decades ago at a Bouchercon in Philadelphia. I loved judy’s droll sense of humor. Over the years, hanging out with the Criders was always one of the highlights of Bouchercon. At the last Bouchercon in Toronto, I took Judy and Bill to see the stage version of MAMMA MIA! The Criders loved it (Bill is the biggest ABBA fan in the world). But eight years ago, Judy started her battle against cancer. For eight long years, she beat it down. But today, cancer won. And we all lost a wonderful friend.

I know. It is just so sad. She’s been through so much in the last seven or eight years. I just feel so bad for Bill.

That is a great picture of the two of them.

    She will be missed.

Damn. I was just on Bill’s blog and there was no mention of it. I suppose he has other things on his mind. The world will be a gloomier place without her quiet beauty.

Such a terrible loss for Bill and his children. And a reminder to all of us to be thankful today for the loved ones we have with us here.

She always had a smile, a laugh, and a sense of optimism. I have known them forcabout 40 years and there is a huge hole in my heart today.

I know Judy only through Bill’s blog, where she came across as the best thing since sliced bread, which I am sure she was. Reading about this was not the way I wanted to end my Thanksgiving, but I am very thankful that Bill was lucky enough to spend so much of his life with this wonderful person.

Jerry, you’re right on the money with Judy. She was a delight to be around. Judy and Bill were one of our favorite couples. It’s so sad she’s gone.

Reading Bill’s earlier post today I guessed this might happen, but what a terrible thing, and on this day, especially. I fear Thanksgiving will never be “right” for Bill and the family again. Judy was wonderful, the times I met her, most recently at SF Bouchercon, where she looked lovely. I hope Bill will be alright, I worry, after all the stress of the last years. I wish there was something we could all do for him.

Rick, Bill’s son and daughter are with him during this difficult time. And, if you check Bill’s blog posting about Judy, you’ll see a whole legion of people who are sharing their feelings about this tragedy. I’m so sad this happened. Thanksgiving will never be the same for me, either.

Prashant, Bill and Judy Crider were a fabulous couple. They completed each other. And they were so much fun to be around. It’s just so sad that we won’t see Judy ever again.

Sergio, Bill and Judy Crider were one of the those couples that were just made for each other. It’s hard to deal with the fact that Judy’s gone.
