I don’t know about you, but I can listen to k. d. lang sing all day long. Her voice is crystal-clear and distinctive. You don’t have to guess who’s singing when a k. d. lang song is playing on the radio. This collection is more than a glorified “Greatest Hits” compilation. There are alternative versions of some of k. d. lang’s best known songs, plus some rare material I’ve never heard before–and I own every CD k. d. lang ever released. This collection comes in two versions: the “plain vanilla” (cheaper version) and this edition with the bonus live CD and the DVD. I recommend the complete edition. If you only know k. d. lang from her seminal renditions of “Hallelujah,” “Constant Craving,” or “Crying,” you’re in for the time of your life when you listen to Recollection! GRADE: A

I loved her singing with Roy Orbison.
k. d. lang also sang well on an album with Tony Bennett, Jeff. She’s terrific. I’ve seen her in concert twice and floated home.
I think she has the best voice of any vocalist in the last twenty years. Plus you can understand the lyrics. I would love to see her someday.
k. d. lang doesn’t tour much, but when she does we try to see her if she’s anywhere near Western New York, Patti. Last year, she performed at SUNY at Buffalo and was marvelous!

And I have great respect for her as one of the first “high-profile” pop artists to “come out,” as well, and any bigoted fans could go scroo their own selves.

I usually put the political and social positions of singers aside and just judge them on the quality of their music, Todd. I’ll check out your second soundtrack posting. You knocked the first one out of the park!

k. d. lang is a great singer, Dan. I’m sure that’s why your sister-in-law goes to all her concerts. I’ve seen k. d. lang in concert twice and she’s terrific!
I try to judge musicians by their talents as well…hence still being able to listen to the better work of Miles Davis, while having no patience for those who want to idolize him as a personality, or even simply a fashion plate (Sinatra likewise). In contrast, I admire Lang’s bravery as well as her vocal abilities. But while listening, the latter are what matter. She has a supple and flexible voice (and, on the fourth paw, her acting career is very much tied in with that aspect of her personal life).
I’ve like k. d. lang from the beginning of her career where she sang mostly Country & Western songs, Todd. But, then she branched out and experimented with different musical styles. I give her credit for not playing it safe.
