KATIE & DIANE VISIT MONTREAL

Katie and Diane are visiting Montreal and attending the annual comedy festival. I opted to stay home to read and eat pizza. The church in the background was featured in one of Louise Penny’s mysteries. Can you identify it?

Nice girls you got, George – congratulations!

Aren’t you afraid to let them loose? Who knows what might happen, other men … đŸ™‚
I heard that the French Canadians are , oh la la – comme ci, comme ca …

    Totally OT:
Just read about the new netflix series Ozark – even darker than Breaking Bad …

The church is a mystery to me. I’m glad they are having a good time. Sounds like fun, we all need to have something to laugh about.

Nancy & I changed our plans for before Bouchercon and are now going to visit the village where Louise Penny lives, and to to Buffalo after the convention. We saw the village highlighted on the CBS Sunday morning show on Louise, and both thought it looked charming.

Wow, that’s a tough choice. I’d like to visit Montreal (and Quebec City) someday, but reading and pizza sound good to me too.

Jeff, I traveled a lot when I was younger. Diane couldn’t travel when she was taking care of her mother all those years. Now Diane is making up for lost time (and travel).

That’s St. Joseph’s Oratory in Montreal!

The original church was built by Brother AndrĂ© (said to have performed numerous miracles) around 1900, but soon was deemed too small. The current building was finally finished in 1967. According to Wikipedia, it’s Canada’s largest church and the twenty-seventh largest church building in the world.

If you say a prayer on every step, they say you’ll be healed. Maybe it works — there’s a room full of crutches from those who came to the basilica and were healed by Brother Andre. His heart is also on display there (it was stolen once, but that’s another story…).

Pope John Paul II deemed Brother AndrĂ©’s miracles to be authentic and beatified him in 1982. In October 2010 Pope Benedict XVI canonized the saint.

(By the way, George, they have pizza and books in Montreal)
