Kubo and the Two Strings is a visual feast! A young boy named Kubo tends to his injured mother. He raises money in the nearby Japanese village by playing a three-string guitar and telling stories using origami figures that magically come to life. Kubo’s mother warns him never to stay out after dark. And, of course, one day Kubo does miss his curfew and that event triggers the rest of the action in this absorbing and entertaining animated feature. The colors are brilliant and origami effects are spectacular! The story will involve you as Kubo’s quest takes many unexpected twists and turns. If you’re a fan of superb animation and traditional Japanese story-telling, you’ll find a lot of like in Kubo and the Two Strings. GRADE: B+

It scared my nine-year old grandson. But only the funniest movies get his stamp of approval.
Patti, kids go through stages like that. Our kids only wanted to see animated films for three or four years.
I can’t imagine what there is in this to scare a 9 year old. Really. Is he easily frightened? I thought the animation was excellent and the whole movie very well done. I would have given it an A, George.
Rick, I had to take points off for “Killing the Woman” and using a Beatle song at the end.
I didn’t think the “killing” was in any way scary or unpleasant, and you take points off for Beatles music? I love Beatles music. I guess that means I get an “F”

Rick, I have no problem with Beatles music, but in the this context of a traditional Japanese story that contemporary music was jarring. It just didn’t fit the movie for me.
