LINDSEY BUCKINGHAM AND CHRISTINE MCVIE

Lindsey Buckingham and Christine McVie sounds a lot like Fleetwood Mac-lite. The songs are bouncy and lively for the most part. I liked “Red Son” and “Game of Pretend” best. In general, this new CD is vapid and unmemorable. You can safely skip this one. What’s your favorite Fleetwood Mac song? GRADE: C

Oh Well from the early version of Fleetwood Mac when Peter Green was the leader. Loved his guitar playing.

Todd, when Mick Fleetwood invited Lindsey Buckingham to join the group, Buckingham said, “I’ll only join if you accept my girl friend, too.” His girl friend at the time was…Stevie Nicks.

Patti, I agree with you. I’ve been listening to songs by Burt Bacharach and Hal David. They knew how to write great songs.

When the loving starts and the lights go down,
There’s not another living soul around.
You woo me until the sun comes up,
    And say you love me.

The Christine McVie songs. Say You Love Me, You Make Loving Fun, etc.

From the pre-Buckingham-Nicks era, I love “Hypnotized”–which, iirc, was written by Bob Welch. From the B-N era, there are too many to choose from, but “Tusk”, “Little Lies”, and “Hold Me” spring to mind.

Lindsey and I share the same birthday (Oct 3), both swam competitively in the late 60’s in South Bay swim meets before he quit sports (his brother Greg won a silver medal at the ’68 olympics in Mexico, the same year I swam butterfly against Olympian Mark Spitz for my first of two times at CCS high school finals), and we were at San Jose State at the same time for a year or two. I don’t remember him from those days, but saw them perform twice in the 70’s. I liked the band’s harder rock stuff & style after seeing them play at SJSU before they went Pop and big with “Rumors,” though I went to see them again anyway later in the 70’s after they became world renown.
