My father was overseas from 1941-45. I can’t imagine such a thing-being frightened for four years. My brother-in-law won the Silver Star and three Purple Hearts in Vietnam and died later as a result. War is hell.

My father served on a destroyer in the Pacific during WWII, Patti. His ship was struck by a kamikaze plane and he was injured. My Dad was awarded a Purple Heart.

My father was 17 when Pearl Harbor was hit and he had to get permission from his mother to enlist. He spent most of the next 4 years in England, working on keeping the planes flying.
