There’s been a lot of internet chatter about it being inappropriate to say “Happy Memorial Day” because it’s supposed to be a solemn day of remembrance and honor. So an enormous thank you to all of our veterans–especially those who didn’t make it back.

But, of course, like many people we’re cooking today: my husband is smoking ribs and I’m making spicy carnitas. And we’re looking forward to some baseball on TV as we work.

Deb, sounds like you have MEMORIAL DAY festivities well in hand. We’re doing the traditional picnic stuff: hamburgers, hot dogs, etc. But there’s also time to ponder the loss of so many of our military over the years. Nothing “happy” about that…

Deb, that seems silly. Just more opinionated BS, in my opinion. Happy Memorial Day can be just as valid as we celebrate the memory of those we’ve loved and lost. Memorial Day isn’t just about military, it’s about family and friends as well. Veteran’s Day used to be the military memory day, but these days people seem to want to celebrate veterans on both days. I always spend some time celebrating my good memories of my parents on this day.

We had ribs yesterday, with slaw, corn on the cob, deviled eggs, As for baseball, good idea. We usually don’t think to watch it until late in the season or even when the lengthy play-offs begin. So Happy Memorial Day to you.

Same to you, George. Enjoy that ice cream, wish I could have some.

My numbers have been bad, and I have an appointment with the Diabetes doc tomorrow including a poke and a A1C, which will reveal my lack of control on the vacation last month (ice cream, fudge, cookies, eclairs… I was out of control) so I’m trying to at least show I’m back on track. I want to see a 130 or lower poke tomorrow morning at the Dr. office. So today it’s gong to be protean and veggies.

Deb, that menu sounds great to me. We had ribs yesterday and Pizza and chicken today.

We went to the 18th Brooklyn Memorial Day Parade today.
