Jerry, outside my window snowflakes drift lazily down to cover my lawn. Yes, we have a White Christmas here in Western New York! All the best Christmas wishes to you and your family!

We haven’t had a White Christmas here since 2009, I think. It will be about average here – low 40s and sunny. The warmest Christmas on record in New York City was 2015, when it was 66 degrees.

Jeff, it’s 32 degrees with a slight breeze here. The big snowflakes continue to dance around outside our windows. Very Christmasy!

Deb, I thought those NEW YORK REVIEW OF BOOKS covers forming a Christmas Tree was a very cool idea! Of course, I own a lot of those books! Merry Christmas to you and your family! What’s on the menu?

Christmas menu always the same: John grills lamb (after a marinade in yogurt, onions, and sliced lemons) with garlic, rosemary, and mint. I make the sides: mashed potatoes, Yorkshire pudding, creamed spinach, and gravy. I just bought two cakes (chocolate and coconut) for dessert.

Rick, Diane is just finishing the scalloped potatoes and the pierogis. After a bit of baking time, they’ll be read to load into the Rogue for a trip to my brother’s house for the Christmas feast. Katie’s making some Christmas cookies and Patrick baked a pumpkin pie (his favorite). We’ll open gifts when we return. Of course, Diane already has her new iPhone XR (Patrick installed all her apps and transferred her files). I’m hoping Santa brings me a new iPad!

Defintely a white Christmas here in Manitoba even though the roads are a little icey due to some melting. No books under the tree, but a gift card for our excellent independent store McNally Robinson. Do have a couple of books in mind. Boxing Day is the annual 30-50% off sale at one of our largest used bookstores so that’s a must visit and the large Chapters store has 30% off hardcovers. Think I will buy John McPhee’s latest collection, The Patch., which McNally doesn’t have in stock.

Merry Christmas to all of you – and everybody on the Earth! This is not a good time it seems, let’s hope that it gets better soon …
    Fun fact:
In most European countries (Austria, Germany,Hungary e g) Christmas festivities including getting your presents begin on the 24th already – so today is a day for relaxing and looking at our presents. 🙂
We gave ourselves only chocolate – the big stuff like a new phone was “pre Xmas present”, the new trend. Shopping for presents just before Christmas is kind of horrible here – in the US too?

    PS:
And a very good year 2019!
