Merry Christmas to the Kelleys and everyone here!

Hope it’s a good one for all. The British have a tradition of special Christmas episodes of their hit series, and we watch some of them – along with movies – every year. Last night it was THE GOOD LIFE (aka GOOD NEIGHBORS) and GAVIN & STACEY, followed by MEET ME IN ST. LOUIS (where Judy Garland sang “Have Yourself a Merry Little Christmas”). Tonight will be THE DARLING BUDS OF MAY “Christmas is Coming” episode, plus LOVE ACTUALLY and the new CALL THE MIDWIFE Christmas episode. The two-part LAST TANGO IN HALIFAX show was a major disappointment, by the way, at least in our opinion.

After that we’ll see. Perhaps JONATHAN CREEK or ONE FOOT IN THE GRAVE.

    And Merry Christmas to you!

I’ve been spending the week watching morally uplifting films like THREE GODFATHERS, ANGEL: & THE BAD MAN, and WAGON MASTER, hoping Santa will think I’ve been good.

Dan, I’m sure you’re on Santa’s Nice List! We’re in the Deep Freeze with snow and cold forecast for the entire week. Good time to get caught up on movies and TV shows we’ve DVRed.

So if the Raiders beat the Chargers (possible), the Jaguars beat the Titans (more likely), and Buffalo wins in MIami, the Bills are in!

Not a sure thing, but the possibility still exists.

And Seattle needs to beat Arizona and hope Carolina beats Atlanta to get it.

At least they eliminated the Cowboys.

    Merry Christmas to all!

Our family’s Christmas is not complete without listening to Elvis’s Christmas album, which we did the other night while driving around looking at Christmas lights. We also have to watch “Blackadder’s Christmas Carol”, “Bernard & the Genie”, and (natch) “A Christmas Story” (good thing that’s running for 24 hours on TBS).

Deb, Merry Christmas to you and your family! I read somewhere that Irving Berlin was so outraged at Elvis’s version of “White Christmas” that he tried to get the song pulled from radio stations! We’re going over to my brother’s house for a Christmas feast of ham, sausage, green salad, cranberry jello salad, ambrosia, scalloped potatoes, green beans, and fruit salad. Desserts include croissants (Patrick and Katie baked them from scratch), chocolate Nutella cookies (another Patrick and Katie creation), carrot cake, and cannoli cake. Yum!

Last week I saw Hershey Felder (SP?) do his Irving Berlin show. It was amazing, but there were a lot of empty seats.

I know he’s also done Gershwin and Tchaikovsky, n but I’ve not seen those.

I think he’d be great doing Cole Porter and George M. Cohen!!

Maggie, shows during the Holidays are always chancey. You never know who will show up. Up here, the Polar Vortex cold would discourage a lot of people from going out.

Sounds tasty. Looks like a black & white & gray Kelley color scheme this year. I like the picture. That looks like a big tree!

Since we went to the city yesterday we decided against recreating the Thanksgiving dinner. Instead we’re going Italian: leftover pizza for lunch, spaghetti and meatballs and bread and salad for dinner. As for desserts – we picked up a BIG slice of Junior’s carrot cake cheesecake (yum!) on the way home yesterday and had it last night.

Jeff, I think a year of Trump caused the black & white & gray Kelley color scheme this year instead of the traditional red & green & white. I love all varieties of carrot cake!

You would love that. I always think it’s a zillion calories but worth it once or twice a year. It is so good!

George, I hope you and the three little elves standing beside you have a fantastic Christmas and the happiest of New Years!

We had the roast, potato, green beans, slaw, and cheesecake last night. This morning was cranberry swirl loaf. (My mid-morning poke was 125 – good) It’s leftovers for lunch and dinner today, while, seemingly unlike the rest of you we’ll be reading, not watching. We did see Christmas in Connecticut on Saturday.

Hope you had a wonderful Christmas, all of you. What on earth is that costume Patrick is wearing? Nice looking tree. Barbara shoveled off the front walk, but for the rest, we’ll wait for a thaw & melt. It’s 33 now, and there should be rain this afternoon. Meanwhile, a contented holiday here.

Rick, Patrick loves wearing anything “unusual.” I suspect he may have bought it in Japan while he was over there. We’re in for a week of cold and snow and wind! Happy Holidays!

A day late and snow interfered with some of our plans. A major disappointment in DOWNSIZING. Maybe the worst movie I saw in 2017. But lot of good books under the tree and a gorgeous necklace from Megan and another from Phil. Chamber music tks from my son. It is freezing here.

Patti, we had a White Christmas here for the first time in three years. I’d estimate we have about 12 inches of snow on the ground. The temps have been below freezing for days so there are icy patches everywhere! Sounds like Santa was very good to you!

Belated Happy Holidays. I was without a computer for over a week, and had a very bad geek squad experience, until I finally had a great GS agent set up the new one. They finally agreed to give me $99 off the installation fee (had previously offered 15% off) which I think happened after they must have listened to all my calls with the center where I was told different stories about why the first assigned agent didn’t show up (in a car accident, went to my mailing address, was there, wasn’t working that day)

Christmas eve was at my friend Nancy’s Mom’s place (she’s now bed ridden) with Honey Baked Ham, scallop potatoes, corn casserole, soup plantations broccoli salad (available at Costco here) and apple pie.

Christmas was at another friends house with prime rib, ham, broccoli, asparagus, roasted potatoes and german chocolate cake.

This friend and I spent 12 hours on Fri baking, and had very little to show for it. Best things were brownies (from a box) and choc/amaretto truffles.
