INDIANA JONES: THE COMPLETE ADVENTURES in BLU-RAY

RAIDERS OF THE LOST ARK, TEMPLE OF DOOM, THE LAST CRUSADE, and KINGDOM OF THE CRYSTAL SKULL: sure, the second and fourth movies are clunkers, but the first movie and the third are classics. And now these wonderful films are in sharp, colorful Blu-ray the way they should be enjoyed. I expect plenty of these sets will show up under Christmas trees this year. Every home should have one! ” Special features include a six-minute introduction by Spielberg and Lucas, who discuss the grail as a metaphor for bringing Indy and his estranged father together and agree that Crusade is the funniest of the three films; “Indy’s Women,” an American Film Institute tribute with leading ladies Karen Allen, Kate Capshaw, and Alison Doody each discussing her character (Capshaw candidly describes Temple of Doom’s Willie Scott as “whiny, petulant, and annoying”); “Indy’s Friends and Enemies,” a look at the films’ various villains and sidekicks; plus storyboards and photo galleries. GRADE: A+

OK, I’ll be the dissenting voice. I liked TEMPLE OF DOOM. Not a big fan of the 4th though. Yes, this will be on my Christmas list.

I must admit that I never look at the “extra features” on DVD’s. Give me the movie and that’s it.

I’ll be a second sort-of dissenting voice. In 1981 we made our one and only visit to Ireland. By coincidence, friends Frank and Anna Jo Denton were in Dublin at the same time so we arranged to meet them for dinner. Frank was raving the entire time about RAIDERS. By the time we finally saw it expectations were so high nothing could have lived up to it so we were (somewhat) disappointed. A second viewing was a lot better.

I just watched RAIDERS OF THE LOST ARK recently, Jeff, and it holds up. I haven’t watched THE LAST CRUSADE in years so I’ll be excited to see it in Blu-ray format!

Though they vary in plot quality and presentation, I pretty much like them all. Raiders is easily the best, but Temple has it’s moments, Crusade is good, even Crystal Skull has some pretty good bits and interesting characters. If I didn’t already have all of them, I’d certainly consider this.

Say, didn’t we just discuss buying duplicates, (even if it is going to blu-ray)?
