NEW INTERIOR LIGHTS!

Diane decided our old dining room light needed replacement, as well as the light in the foyer and the light in the loft. The new dining room light has six lights and provides much more light than the old light. Same goes for the loft light. We’re waiting for the frosted glass for the foyer light (that’s why I’m not showing it right now). The lighting store we purchased the lights from offer an electrician to come out to your house and install the lights. Great feature! Are you planning to upgrade your lighting?

    Really nice!
And I’m sure these are LED lamps so you’ll also save a lot of electricity.
We’ve been renovating our lighting step by step – usually just exchanging the old halogen bulbs with LEDs.
However my wife bought me a special reading lamp for working on my laptop. Right now I have to switch it on early because of the heat we have closed all the blinds …
But in the kitchen we still have fluorescent lamps – because my wife is visually impaired (how else could she have fallen in love with an old geezer like me?) she needs extra strong wight light for cooking etc.
    PS and rather OT:
just read about the kanikula ( heatwave) that you’re having and the chaos it produced in NYC. How’s the situation in your place/city?

Wolf, here in NYC it “only” got to 95 yesterday, a few degrees lower than predicted, but the real feel was closer to 110, and we are expecting the same (or a little hotter) today. Luckily, the heat wave will be gone tomorrow.

Jeff, we’re still going to be hot and humid today, but the temps go back into the 70s tomorrow. I hate the extreme heat!

Wolf, the dining room lights are on a dimmer switch. Those six LED bulbs put out a lot of light and sometimes we prefer to reduce the intensity. No power problems here. But, we have a natural gas generator to supply power if the lights go off.

Nice. I like that dining room fixture. We did upgrade our lights a few years ago, and the new bulbs do seem to last much longer. Our super is not only able to fix leaks and the like, but can handle the electrical stuff as well.

Jeff, you’re lucking you have such a versatile super. An electrician (or plumber) around here charges $100 just to come out and look at the job!

Since Hurricane Barry dropped a tree on my roof, taking out the laundry room and a good portion of the kitchen, I will be getting new lighting fixtures courtesy of the insurance company! I always did want to remodel, but not under those circumstances—lol!

Deb, I’m happy you and your family didn’t get hurt by Hurricane Barry. You’ll be inconvenienced by the construction guys during the remodel, but you’ll end up with an upgraded laundry room and kitchen! You might want to consider getting rid of any trees too close to you house.

I read about Barry on the net but didn’t know that it hurt your house. At least you’re lucky that no one was hurt – and that you’re insured.
      A bit OT:
You don’t need a hurricane, a regular storm might do. We had “Lothar” about 20 years ago on the day after Xmas. Around noon I saw our pine tree near the driveway shaking so I decided to move our two cars to the lawn behind the house – and in the evening there was loud boom when the tree fell across the driveway. It would have destroyed both cars …
      Re LED lighting:
One of the advantages of LEDs is their long life – so choose careful, you might have to live with it many years! 🙂

Wolf, just about all the lights in our home now are LEDs. The “old” light bulbs are no longer being manufactured in the U.S.

        George, good to hear!
We have a similar rule in the EU – no more incandescent bulbs!
And Led lights have become so much cheaper luckily.

My upgrading consists of changing light bulbs when they burn out! I have some of those long lasting, expensive bulbs but they don’t fit in some fixtures, like the globe on the porch!

You’re evidently sharper at this than I am. When I decided to replace my breakfast room lighting a year or so ago, I picked out a hanging fixture from Home Depot. However, when I got it home and looked at the measurements, I realized that what looked good in the cavernous space of the warehouse would be absurdly over-large for that space; further, even if hung as high as possible, the lamps would still be hanging at forehead-bashing height. Returned unopened and replaced with a more modest non-hanging ceiling fixture; no cost penalty, just an annoying extra trip.

Art, that’s why I leave the appliance, lighting, and furniture upgrades to Diane. I have no interest or skill in remodeling.
