NFL DIVISIONAL PLAYOFFS: JACKSONVILLE JAGUARS VS. PITTSBURGH STEELERS ( 1:05 P.M. EDT CBS); NEW ORLEANS SAINTS VS. MINNESOTA VIKINGS (4:40 P. M. EDT FOX)

The Pittsburgh Steelers are 7-point favorites over the Jacksonville Jaguars. When these two teams met on October 8, 2017 the Jaguars beat the Steelers 30-9 in a surprising upset. I don’t think that will happen today. But the game we’re all waiting for–especially Deb–is the New Orleans Saints vs. Minnesota Vikings. The Vikes are 5-point favorites. Can the Saints win on the road in arctic Minnesota? What do you think will happen?

The Falcons’ loss yesterday has changed the mood here for the better. First, it tells us that the favored team doesn’t necessarily have to win (although—as predicted—New England put a real beat down on Tennessee). Second, it means that if the Saints do win today (please, please, please), they will not have to face our arch-enemies, the “Dirty Birds”, in the NFC Championship game. The key for the Saints is to get Breese as many throwing opportunities as possible and for the defense to bring an impenetrable wall. Of course, as always, it depends on which Saints team shows up!

Deb, I thought the Eagles were beatable yesterday. The Falcons just didn’t close the deal after taking that lead in the game. If the Saints can defeat the Vikings today, I think the Saints would be favored in Philly next week.

I thought the same, George. Ryan was way off with his passing and they let the Eagles hang around and get back in the game. They still could have won with better play calling. Why did he wait for fourth down to roll out? The underhand toss was stupid.

Go, Saints today. I expect Pittsburgh to win.

We were in Downtown West Palm Beach when I heard a big roar coming from this sports bar. Sure enough, Jacksonville was up 28-7.

The Saints offense stinks so far, but that was a HORRIBLE interference call.

That was as bad – possibly worse – than the way the Seahawks threw away (literally) the Super Bowl.

WTF was he thinking? All you do is wrap him up as soon as he catches the ball and stop him from getting out of bounds. Instead he did some kind of weird forward roll – in the process taking out the only teammate who might have caught him – and give the game away.

    I am dumbfounded.

Jeff, like you I was astonished by the ending of the Saints vs. Vikings game! The Vikings had no Time Outs. All the Defense had to do was tackle the receiver in-bounds and let the clock run out!

John has been saying that since the game ended: all the defense had to do was bring the guy down. Oh—that was a heartbreaker!
