The first National College Football Championship Game features an intriguing match-up. Ohio State shocked Alabama (and plenty of gamblers in Vegas) to reach this game. In my estimation, Urban Meyer is the best coach in college football. Many people believe Marcus Mariota is the best quarterback in the college ranks. Tonight, we’ll find out. College football fans have been demanding a National Championship game for decades. Now, we’ll see what happens. Oregon is favored by 7 points. I’m taking Ohio State and the points. This should be a close game. What do you think?

Bob, a lot of people thought Alabama vs. Ohio State was going to be a laugher, too.
At this point I don’t think you can stop the Buckeyes. I predict they’ll win this and go on to the Superbowl.

I have to admit I’m with Bill, though I’d say “jarring” rather than ugly to be kind. Every time you see them your eyes pop out.
I must admit I don’t follow college football and don’t really care much, but I’d like to see Oregon win.

Patti, I think the Buckeyes will win by 3.
I’d like to think the Ducks will win, but Ohio State is tough. Remember, they went undefeated two years ago but were bowl ineligible. Only the fact that they are using a third string, though very good, QB keeps them from being the favorite. Football fans and sport writers in general don’t care much for west coast teams, and once out of California that turns nearly to disdain. The network (ESPN) would have been much happier with the Alabama-Florida State matchup that didn’t happen.
All that said, I’m rooting for the Ducks and, barring injury, and if their defense and stop the Ohio State running game, think they will win. The biggest thing is NO INJURIES. Injuries and turnovers always seem to dictate the outcome.
Florida State seemed to barely squeak by week after week and they finally got burned.
Rick, I wouldn’t mind an Oregon win. But I don’t think Oregon’s ever faced a team like Ohio State.
Jeff, Florida State lived on the edge all season long and finally it caught up to them when they played Oregon.
George, they beat Michigan State, Arizona and Stanford. We’ll see in a short time now.

I think they screwed up by not wearing their green uniforms.

Dan, as I mentioned before, it’s a Big Mistake to bet against an Urban Meyer team. I consider Urban Meyer the Best Coach anywhere.
It would have been nice to see both teams at full strength and having a good game.
As I said yesterday, Oregon can win “if the ducks can stop the running game”… which they only did in the first quarter. With the four best receivers either injured or out by stupidity, Mariota didn’t have the targets he usually does, and honestly, I thought there were some awful calls and no calls by the officials, but the Buckeyes won, and that’s that.
Dan, if you want to gloat, have a good time with that.
