PARIS CAN WAIT

Diane Lane plays a beautiful but neglected wife of film producer Alec Baldwin. Lane has painful ears from the flight from America to France. Baldwin flies to Budapest on business (he’s only on-screen in Paris Can Wait for about two minutes). Baldwin’s business associate, Jacques (played brilliantly by Arnaud Viard), offers to drive Diane Lane to Paris in his ancient Peugeot. Jacques is the kind of guy who knows where to find the best food, the best cheese, the best wine, the best roses, and the best museums. And, Jacques cleverly finds reasons to stop along the way to Paris to show off his culinary accumen and his exquisite taste in wine.

The whole focus of Paris Can Wait–besides the distractions of the fabulously filmed food and wine and chocolate and landscapes–is whether Diane Lane lets herself be seduced by the likable Frenchman. You won’t be surprised by the ending. GRADE: B-

This one will be a net flix for me, but after many others. I just finished the new Martin Walker book featuring Bruno, Chief of Police. It’s a great series, set in perigord.
This one involves a possible Templar treasure. The setting makes me want to take french again and visit! I’m guessing the setting for this is similar outside of Paris

Yes, the setting is the only draw. We saw BEATRIX AT DINNER, which could certainly have used some scenery. A real downer.

You want French scenery in a better movie? Skip this and watch TWO FOR THE ROAD again.

    We do, annually.

Going to be 100 here today, an all-time record for June in Portland. I dislike the heat, the hotter, the more I dislike. Barbara’s daughter is flying in for the weekend, her first visit, and she gets this awful weather (it’s mid-70s in San Diego where she lives). Too bad. Windows closed, air conditioning on. Too hot to go to the Apple store today! Hotter tomorrow.

R It’s been in the 90’s here in SD (unless she lives on the coast, where it’s been 80’s) Sunday it should hit near 100 inland.

PS I highly recommend the Martin Walker books. (I was still partially asleep when I wrote the comment) It’s small village life done well. I’ve got 2 more on the TBR mountain, and hope to get to them if I get caught up with reviews.

Too hot! Our one visit to Portland was in August, I believe, and it hit 100 more than once. We stayed with my brother who had no air conditioning at the time.
