Patience is the latest mystery drama broadcast on Sunday nights on PBS (it’s also available on AMAZON PRIME Video). Patience was adapted from the critically acclaimed French television series, Astrid.
Set in York, England, the show centers on the unlikely partnership between Detective Inspector Bea Metcalf (played by Laura Fraser), veteran investigator, and Patience Evans (played by Ella Maisy Purvis) an autistic woman who works in the Criminal Records Office.
Metcalf realizes Patience’s brilliance and uniqueness in solving puzzles. After Metcalf discovers Patience’s ability to make connections in criminal cases that other people don’t see, she and Patience focus on solving crimes that have gone “under the radar.”
I’ve only watched the first episode, but this series has a lot of entertainment potential! GRADE: Incomplete, but trending towards a B+
We’ll be giving either Patience or Astrid a try, but we haven’t decided which one yet.
Jeff, I haven’t tried ASTRID but Diane and I liked what we saw in the first episode of PATIENCE.
PATIENCE, as I’ve mentioned on Patti Abbott’s blog, is not bad…but ASTRID (which includes her partner’s name in the French broadcasts) is a bit better, to judge by what I’ve seen of both. However, Astrid in the original, is more stereotypically deep into the autism spectrum.
Todd, I’m going to give ASTRID a try.
I’ve only seen the first episode of PATIENCE.
Jeff. Make it ASTRID. Trust me.
We tried to watch it, but it didn’t do it for us. Astrid’s endearing quirkiness was missing. And no Paris setting. We have too many other shows we really like.
Jeff, Diane and I will give ASTRID a try. The city of York doesn’t quite compare to Paris…
ASTRID is good. She seems a bit more compromised than PATIENCE as you might expect. Then there is also the one about the lawyer(ATTORNEY WOO) (Japanese). Clearing divergency is having its moment.
We didn’t care for that one either, Patti.
We tried ATTORNEY WOO without success, as well.
Patti, with Trump and his administration at war with DEI, programs like ASTRID, PATIENCE, and ATTORNEY WOO might be a thing of the Past.
Well, even more at war with PBS as a whole. And NPR.
