PATIENCE, SEASON 2 (PBS)

I enjoyed Season 1 of Patience (you can read my review here) and started watching Season 2. Patience is a British–Belgian detective drama television series starring Ella Maisy Purvis as autistic police archivist Patience Evans. Set in York, England, Patience was adapted from the critically acclaimed French television series, Astrid.

While Season 1 of Patience had six episodes, Season 2 has eight. The big change is that Patience’s mentor, Laura Fraser as DI Bea Metcalf, has left the series and her replacement is the surly Jessica Hynes as DI Frankie Monroe. DI Monroe does not welcome Patience’s insights–even when those insights solve the murder case.

A third season has been given the Green Light so we’ll have more of crime solving by a brilliant young woman to look forward to. GRADE: Incomplete but treading towards a B+

Since the last presidential election, i have lost all patience. I will, however, give this one a try if I come across it.

Jerry, PBS schedules vary across the country. Our PBS station has PATIENCE scheduled for Sundays at 8:00 P.M. Well worth a look!

I stumbled across it last night and watched a few minutes while having a late dinner which is when I do my only TV watching these days. It seemed okay but it’s summer and landscaping my yard is my white whale for the next few months so there goes all my free time except for what I set aside for my rescue cat who loves going for walks in her harness. I’ve been stepping back from media overload these days with the exception of music which I couldn’t live without.
It’ll be interesting to see what happens with PBS programming in the coming years. I suspect it will be more imported content tht the streamers don’t vacuum up.

OK, we watched the first two-part episode of series one. She’s no Astrid, but it is certainly watchable. I’ve always liked York, so I was glad to see familiar streets.

I was also unaware, despite the three local PBS (and two PBS World) stations here…ASTRID gets quite a workout of late, as does THE PUZZLE LADY and older standbys such as DEATH IN PARADISE, MISS FISHER’S MURDER MYSTERIES and MIDSOMER MURDERS. Will look for it.

I found the series is being offered by the most local PBS station as a streaming item (not one requiring membership–I suspect they’re hoping to see if it draws enough attention without fanfare to make it worth giving broadcast time to…must be an inexpensive license, or perhaps hoping to get buzz before broadcast). Somewhat eleepily, I watched episode 201 first rather than the pilot…the new squad boss is excessively brusque but does have a point, in terms of how this sort of thing would work out in real Police work, even if said new boss is also somewhat more full of herself than might be probable…but, then, a woman cop in a position of authority, on the third hand, might well be cocky. Clitty. Like that.

Not quite as impressive as ASTRID on first exposure, no, but not bad.
