Diane is a big fan of NPR’s “Wait, Wait Don’t Tell Me” and one of her favorite panelists is Paula Poundstone. When Diane heard that Paula Poundstone was appearing at her alma mater, Buffalo State College, to perform her stand-up comedy routine, she bought tickets. And, sure enough, Paula was as funny in-person as she is on the radio. Although part of her 2-hour show had some set routines, much of her comedy was generated by interaction with the audience. The set routines included bits about Paula’s three adopted children, Elvis, classic TV shows, and her own obsessive-compulsive tendencies. Paula engaged the audience which resulted in plenty of laughs about the lighting of the Peace Bridge (the main bridge to Canada), manipulative teachers and managers, and hooking up in the Beer Tent at a local festival. If Paula Poundstone shows up in your area, and you want to laugh, I’d recommend you attend her performance.
I haven’t seen her in some time but I always thought she was funny.
Of course, she does have 18 cats…
Paula Poundstone made references to all those cats, Jeff. Of course, I’m allergic to cats so even those stories made me itchy and twitchy.
It’s a odd thought…I’ve been a fan of hers going back more than thirty years now…
Diane and I are not big fans of stand-up comedy, Todd. This is only the second time we’ve gone to a stand-up comedian. The first time was Jerry Seinfeld.
She’s definitely great in person. We saw her live about 20 years ago and again last year with my 85 year old mom, who laughed as much as the rest of us.
We enjoyed Paula Poundstone’s quirky humor, Dan. The audience laughed for most of the 2-hour show.
Good comedienne. bad babysitter.
I am a fan of standup comics, but I’ve only seen one in person once, George Carlin. I did see a few as opening acts, but didn’t go to the theater for them but for the headliner.
Paula Poundstone, Bad Babysitter. There’s a book or movie there, Bob.
I enjoy her on Wait, Wait Don’t Tell Me as well. Fun show!
Paula Poundstone has a quick and quirky wit that both my wife and I enjoy, Carl. If Paula Poundstone shows up in your neighbor, I highly recommend you go see her stand-up act.
