If you’re in the mood for 9-episode series with an Invasion of the Body Snatchers vibe, you might want to give Pluribus a try. The first episode starts with astronomers picking up a signal from 600 light years away. They decipher it and start experimenting with the results. BAD MOVE!
This post-apocalyptic science fiction television series was created by Vince Gilligan. Set and filmed primarily in Albuquerque, New Mexico, the series follows romantic fantasy novelist Carol Sturka (Rhea Seehorn), who finds herself isolated after an alien virus transforms the rest of humanity into a peaceful and content hive mind.
Season Two has already been approved. GRADE: Incomplete, but trending towards a B+
I don’t have apple TV nor does Larry, so it’s moot, but probably not something I’d enjoy
Maggie, PLURIBUS is disturbing.
I like it more than Jackie does, though it is somewhat uneven. We have two episodes left.
Jeff, Diane won’t watch PLURIBUS because she thinks “it’s creepy.” It is creepy, but I’ll finish the first season next week. We have all kinds of events this week. We’re supposed to hit 50 degrees by Friday so everyone will be escaping their snowbound houses to run errands and enjoy the fresh air.
I think we just passed your sister’s house. It was 70 degrees at the Outlets in St. Augustine, quite a pleasant change from the weather we had at home.
Jeff, we’re getting cold rain right now. But 50 degrees is predicted for Friday! Glad you’ve had a safe trip!
Jackie said it reminds her of The Borg, which touches on what Byron mentioned.
Jeff, The Borg aspects are clearly evident in PLURIBUS. But I still have more episodes to watch.
I haven’t seen it because I don’t subscribe to any streaming services but I have read a fair amount about it. Definitely some “Body Snatcher” vibes with a touch of “A For Andromeda” and/or “Species.” The first thing I thought of when I read about the show’s premise is that it sounds like a commentary on American consumer society, particularly the hive’s obsession that everyone be of one mind and “happy” which is very much the modern mindset. Oddly, not a single review I’ve seen has touched on this which I find disturbing in itself.
I might give this a look down the road after it wraps up and the critical consensus sounds compelling and provided it’s released on DVD and the library picks it up. On the other hand it also sounds like more of the usual competent streaming content and I’m on a strict TV diet.
Byron, I’m going to watch all 9 episodes of Season One of PLURIBUS before I make a decision on Season Two. Right now, I have mixed feelings about this series.
I loved it but I don’t need much story-just a good premised and interesting characters.
Patti, the characters are certainly interesting and the premise…is engaging.
