PSA TEST

Yesterday I met with my urologist for my yearly physical. A week ago, I had some routine blood work that included a PSA (Prostate-Specific Antigen) test that is still the best indicator of prostate cancer. My urologist told me my score was 1.0–the same score I had on my PSA test a year ago. “I’m consistent,” I told him. Scores above 5.0 can signal a problem. If you’re a guy over 50, you need to seriously consider getting a PSA test each year. If you’re with a guy you love, urge them to get a PSA test. It’s a lot easier to treat prostate cancer in its early stages. And, there’s also a sense of Relief when you get a good score!

Don’t get my next physical until march. I have a PSA done. Don’t know what my score was last time but it was low. Just had a doctor’s visit Thursday. Finally got my longtime sugar down to 8.0. I’m not much of a stickler to what I should and should not eat, so that was good. When I was taken off pills and put on insulin 16 months ago I weighted only 124 lbs. Now I weigh 181 lbs. I’m 6’2″ so I looked pretty bad at 124.

Steve, if you want to bring your A1C down to the 6.0 range, ask your doctor about Trulicity. I works for me and it might work for you. It’s just one shot per week.

Steve, oops! I keep hoping stem cell research will lead to the ability to grow new pancreases. I could use a new one!

George – Thanks for posting this. It is important. Most of my friends have now hit or are over that age and yet some don’t go to the doctor. I think they are nuts for not getting regular physicals. I tell them the last thing I ever want to hear a doctor say is, “Gee, if you had only come in earlier…”

Elgin, you are so right! It’s easily to fix a small problem than a Big Problem! My health insurance covers all the testing so it’s basically a free service. Why not take advantage of this benefit?
