Pulp Fiction Art won the 2006 “Best Documentary” award at both the Dragon*Con Film Festival and The Internation Horror and Sci-Fi Film Festival. Jamie McDonald based his film on the pulp art collection of Robert Lesser. I’m sure many of you have already seen this documentary, but it was new to me. My only quibble is that it’s only 57 minutes long. I could have easily been entertained by another hour of great pulp fiction artwork! GRADE: B+
Maybe they ran out of money or permissions to use material after an hour.
You might be right, Patti. Still, there are plenty of fabulous pulp covers to look at on this DVD.
Or both, or just energy when they realized they could probably do a 20 hour documentary. But I go with the money/permissions theory Patti gives. I haven’t seen this. Perhaps One of These Days I’ll get to it.
PULP FICTION ART is well worth seeking out, Rick. It’s been out for three years, but this is the first I learned of it.
into my Netflicks queue
I’m sure Bill Crider will be adding PULP FICTION ART to his Netflicks queue, too, Scott.
It was aimed, successfully, at public-television, where 56:46 is the desired length for an hourlong program…it was syndicated by Executive Program Services and might yet pop up on a station near you.
I had an inkling that PBS might be one of the targets for PULP FICTION ART, Todd.
