SKINNY POP MICROWAVE POPCORN

Diane and I occasionally buy a bag of popped Skinny Pop popcorn. Skinny Pop tastes good and is deemed “healthy” by looking at its Nutrition Facts. When we were in BJ’s Warehouse the other day, we saw Skinny Pop Microwave Popcorn for the first time. Of course, we had to try it.

The instructions give a time interval for microwaving. I set our microwave for two minutes and it did the job. However, the bag of Skinny Pop Microwave Popcorn was super-hot! I had to use oven mitts to remove it from the microwave. Opening the bag is tricky, too, unless you want to get burned.

However, once the bag cooled off, the popcorn inside was tasty. Skinny Pop Microwave Popcorn bag is a little smaller than normal microwave popcorn bags we’re used to. No matter. Just less calories, right?

Do you like popcorn? Do you have a preferred brand? GRADE: B

I like popcorn. I have had skinny pop but haven’t seen the microwave bags yet. I prefer popcorn from the movie theaters. It always tastes better there. The calories don’t bother me. It’s the carbs. I can’t eat just a small amounts either.

For years I loved popcorn and always kept a supply of the microwave variety, don’t remember which brand. Then, 5-6 years ago I suddenly lost my taste for it, and didn’t even like the smell of it, which used to be a major attraction. I have absolutely no explanation for this.

I love popcorn. I could eat it every day. But my dentist has asked me not to. So I try not to. Although I may try some at a movie theater. That is usually soften than what I can make at home.

Patti, Diane has to floss every time she eats popcorn. She could eat popcorn every day, too, but limits it to once a week.

My wife used to like microwave popcorn with a cheese flavour – sometimes I helped her when a whole bag was too much for her. Don’t remember the brand however.
But we haven’t had it for at least two years now – she’s switched to peppermint chocolate and I prefer paprika or even jalapeno torrtilla chips, but not too often.

Yes. We have microwave popcorn once a week on Saturday “Brit TV night.” (Currently, this is KAVANAGH Q.C., the original UPSTAIRS, DOWNSTAIRS, and the ’70s comedy THE GOOD LIFE/GOOD NEIGHBORS. We’ve previously watched all of MIDSOMER MURDERS, MORSE, and LEWIS, and will probably rewatch MI5 or FOYLE’S WAR when we fiinish KAVANAGH.) Jackie (who, like Diane, has to floss afterwards) doesn’t like butter popcorn, in the movies or elsewhere. We eat Orville Redenbacher’s Natural Light Simply Salted. Yes, it can get hot. I do it a little over two minutes and I am very careful opening it.

The Nutrition for the same size portion:

    Calories 130/25
    Total Fat 5 g / 1 g
    Sodium 300 mg / 45 mg
    Total carbs 20 g / 4 g
    Dietary Fiber 3 g / < 1 g

So, pretty similar. I guess it comes down to taste (or maybe price, for those who care). We get it in the supermarket in boxes of 3 bags. In Florida, Publix had bigger boxes of 9 or 12.

Jeff, we have tried ORVILLE REDENBACKER’S NATURAL LIGHT SIMPLY SALTED popcorn, too. BJ’s Warehouse sells it in boxes of 24 bags. But, Diane and I like trying various kinds of popcorn.

My favorite supermarket popcorn has been Long gone: Cape Cod brand’s White Cheddar pre-popped. Smartfood’s and Annie’s have not been quite as good, nor Wise’s.

Nope. Barbara has it occasionally, Redenbacker, but the smell drives me to another part of the house, door closed. It’s a big reason I don’t go to movies: that smell.

We’ve been using electric oral irrigators for many years instead, my favourite is the Oral B (used to be a German company: Braun).

I don’t have it as ofern as I used to because of diverticulitis, but when I do it’s the movie butter kind! Without salt and butter popcorn isn’t worth eating! I had some once that was air popped! No oil, butter, or salt! It was like Styrofoam!

Bob, diverticulitis can be serious! My mother-in-law had part of her colon surgically removed because of her diverticulitis!
