SKYSHIPS OVER INNSMOUTH By Susan Laine

Okay, I confess. I bought Skyships Over Innsmouth because I liked Stef Masciandaro’s moody cover. Susan Laine is best known for her LGBTQ erotic romances. Yes, it’s disconcerting when characters are being chased by the deadly minions of Dagon yet find time for some romantic hanky-panky. A Cataclysm destroys civilization as we know it. The few million survivors gather in Canal City (aka, New York City) and send steam-punk skyships into the wilderness to find any refugees. One skyship travels to Innsmouth and the crew confronts Lovecraftean horrors. This is basically fan fiction so factor that in. GRADE: C+

I’d never heard of Laine, but found there were eight full pages of listings for her books on my library’s on-line catalog. However, not one of the books was available in print; all e-books available for download. Also, the few that I clicked on for a synopsis (based on intriguing titles) were M/M romances–nttawwt, but not my particular cup of tea.

Deb, Susan Laine is more interested in writing about relationships than horror. I fell for the cover artwork on this book. The story Laine tells is weak.

And the Lovecraft revival industry rolls on.

I agree, I like the cover a lot. But no, I won’t be reading this one.

There’s a saying, George, about judging a book by it’s cover. You should have suspected, when Innesmouth looks like a lighthouse. This author should teamed up with Chuck Tingle. I hope you applied the 50 page rule and stopped reading, and why didn’t this get a D- ?

Rick, Susan Laine tried her best to write this Lovecraft-Steampunk dystopian adventure. SKYSHIPS OVER INNSMOUTH is a short book so it didn’t take long to read. I set the bar low for Lovecraft pastiches.
