SUPERBOWL LIII: New England PATRIOTS VS. LA RAMS

The New England Patriots are 2 1/2 point favorites over the LA Rams. I’m still sulking because the Saints (who should be in this game) got robbed on the “no call” fiasco. And I would have preferred the up-and-coming Kansas City Chiefs to the perennial cheaters, the New England Patriots. That being said, we’ll probably watch some of the Super Bowl. I’ll have a book in my lap for most of the game, looking up if someone scores. Who do you think will win the Super Bowl this year? Are you rooting for one of these teams?

    Don’t care.

My Super Bowl memories go back to game 1, which I watched at a friend’s house in The Bronx. We went outside to throw a ball around at halftime (starting my tradition of NEVER watching the halftime show). There have been games and teams I cared about (go, Giants!) and others I was “meh” about, but I cannot ever remember a year where I said this before: I will NOT be watching, period.

I can’t bear the thought of the Patriots winning yet another Super Bowl they don’t deserve (hello, Seahawks), but the Rams do not belong in this game.

So, who am I rooting for? The Saints. I want the Patriots to lose but I don’t care if the Rams win, if that makes any sense.

To Roger Goodell and the NFL: Bah, humbug!

As I was driving through the neighborhood yesterday, I saw a number of “We Were Robbed” yard signs. I’ve also received notifications about events titled “The Boycott Bowl” and “The Blackout Bowl” (trust New Orleans, the city that created a world-class cuisine out of “mud bugs,” to find a way to celebrate NOT watching the Super Bowl!). There’s supposed to be a second-line funeral march through the French Quarter today to put the Saints’ Super Bowl dreams to rest. Anyway, having moved through the five stages of grief since that ridiculous non-call, I find myself finally at acceptance. I may watch some of the game, but my heart won’t be in it. I have no love for Tom Brady, but I’d like to see the Patriots put a beat down on the Rams!

Deb, Jackie said somewhere in New Orleans they are showing the Saints-Rams game instead of the Super Bowl. True?

Deb, my niece who lives in Slidell says some bars in the area aren’t showing the 2019 Super Bowl game but are playing a replay of the 2010 Super Bowl where the Saints won!

After pulling for the Rams and Chiefs for most of the season I’m happy that one of them made it to the Super Bowl. And even though I hope the Rams win, I wouldn’t be crushed if the Pats win again. Most of the hatred of the Patriots results from the fact that they’re really good, and have been for a long time. If they were just another mediocre team (like my home team, the Falcons) nobody would care. It’s hard not to feel some sympathy for Saints fans, but their incessant pissing and moaning has used up all the sympathy I had for them. Deb has the right attitude. As the old Arabic saying goes, “the dogs bark, but the caravan moves on.”

Michael, like you I was rooting for the Rams and Chiefs all season long. Young and exciting quarterbacks, high-scoring offenses, fun games…what’s not to like!

George, really, you call the Patriots “perennial cheaters”?? Are you still upset about the never attributed “deflate gate”? Or is it just venting because they are in your AFC Division and thus a rival?

That’s the reason I’m not a Rams fan, plus I don’t much like Goff. But I respect the quality New England has maintained over a long period of time, and I think Brady is the best NFL quarterback to have played the game, and if he and his coach and the rest of the team can go out and win a Super Bowl, good for them.

Menu? We won’t be watching the lead-in programming, which – PACIFIC TIME – started at 9:00 am, but will tune in about a half hour before the game, say around 3:00. At that time we’ll have been to Flying Pie Pizza to pick up our game meal, a large Super Combo. They really load on the toppings, so a few slices is a meal, but it will have to keep us fed till bedtime. No sides.

I also will have a book, but find the motion and noise distract me from a book, so I’ll fool with the iPad.

Rick, I’m more aggravated by the Spygate incident where the Patriots were caught stealing other teams’ signals. The League office penalized the Patriots a First Round draft pick for that infraction although the cheating went on for years. Then Deflategate and Tom Brady “losing” his cell phone and all his messages. Tom Brady was suspended for four games and the New England Patriots were fined $1 million and lost two draft picks as a penalty. Can you name any other NFL with this kind of history of cheating?

the superbowl also was all over our media – and it was proudly reported that it was played in the “Mercedes Benz Arena” … 🙂
        Hope you enjoyed the game!

Wolf, 111 million Americans watched the Super Bowl. CBS, who broadcast the game this year, scored a rating of 45.3 despite a dull game.

Dull or defensive, take your pick. I was surprised the Rams couldn’t do anything against the Patriots defense, I thought they’d get at least a few big plays. The Patriots defense peaked at the right time. This was really a game of head coaches, and experience won.
