    The only problem with this approach to gathering wealth is that it takes it to make it. The amount of stock the average Joe can afford won’t gain enough in value to make an appreciable difference in that person’s overall financial picture, unless bought at age 20 and held until age 60. Sure, I could buy 20 shares of something, but what would be my net gain after five years? At my age, I’m better off buying things with that money that I can enjoy and that enhance my quality of life.

    Rick, you’re right about starting early. I’ve been investing for over 30 years. I started small, but the results have been impressive. I’m not in Buffett’s class, but most of my stocks have done very well. And the dividend checks just keep coming!
