THE 2019 NFL DRAFT

I know most NFL General Managers will claim they are choosing “the Best Player Available” when they draft, but I suspect most of them are choosing players by team needs. The Buffalo Bills needed a defensive tackle after their All-Pro DT Kyle Williams retired. So, guess who the Bills draft? Defensive Tackle Ed Oliver. The Bills need offensive line help so in the Second Round they picked Offensive Guard Cody Ford. And so it went: Running Back, Tight End, Linebacker, Safety…all positions the Bills needed players. How did you favorite NFL team do in the 2019 NFL Draft?
Round 1, Pick 9 (No. 9 overall): Ed Oliver, DT, Houston
Round 2, Pick 6 (No. 38 overall): Cody Ford, G, Oklahoma
Round 3, Pick 10 (No. 74 overall): Devin Singletary, RB, FAU
Round 3, Pick 33 (No. 96 overall): Dawson Knox, TE, Ole Miss
Round 5, Pick 9 (No. 147 overall): Vosean Joseph, LB, Florida
Round 6, Pick 8 (No. 181 overall): Jaquan Johnson, S, Miami
Round 7, Pick 11 (No. 225 overall): Darryl Johnson Jr., OLB, North Carolina A&T
Round 7, Pick 14 (No. 228 overall): Tommy Sweeney, TE, Boston College

Bob, how did you avoid the 2019 NFL Draft? It was carried on ABC, ESPN, and the NFL Network! Plus, our local sports talk-radio guys were covering the Draft for days!

We have 90 channels, six of which are worth watching! I watched something else or didn’t watch any TV!

They blew it big time. They picked a quarterback – Daniel Jones from Duke – at #6 that would have been available at #17, their second first round pick, a quarterback they were in love with but no other team thought was close to a top ten pick. Thus they passed on the pass rusher they needed. This a year after NOT taking a quarterback when several really outstanding ones were available, like Sam Darnold, who went to the Jets.

Dave Gettleman has to go. The Giants are going nowhere.

Jeff, the Bills play the Giants in the Meadowlands on September 15. Weirdly, they also play the Jets in the Meadowlands on September 8.

I know. That’s nuts, right? Every time I turned on ABC, the draft was on. It drove Jackie nuts.

Jeff, I think NFL Draft coverage on three channels as the same time is excessive. I watched Thursday evening until the Bills picked Ed Oliver with their Number 9 pick…and then I went to bed. I heard about the rest of the Bills picks on the radio as I was driving around.

Rick, I’m with Jeff on the QB situation with the Giants. They should have picked a QB last year when there were more options.

The Seahawks have a thing about trading down to get more lower picks. They did take one 1st round player at # 29, but after that I think most picks will have to be “coached up”. I rate their draft a C+

Rick, the Buffalo Bills traded UP twice in the 2019 Draft. But, then again, the Bills had 10 Draft picks so they could afford those moves.
