THE ADVENTURES OF TINTIN: SECRET OF THE UNICORN [Blu-ray]

If you’re a fan of the Indiana Jones movies, you’ll love this computer-animated, motion-capture adaptation of Herge’s classic Tintin comic strip. Secret of the Unicorn is the first in a planned trilogy of Tintin movies. Snowy the dog, Captain Haddock, and the Thompson twins help Tintin on this quest to find pirate treasure. Spielberg’s fantastic sense of pacing keeps the action percolating through the twists and turns of the clever plot. One of the screen writers of The Adventures of Tintin is Steven Moffat who also writes for the current season of Doctor Who. Watching Tintin and Snowy’s adventures turned me back into a kid again. Looks like you were one of the few, George. I wonder if there will be a trilogy after all.

I never read Tintin as a kid.

When I was traveling in Europe, Tintin books were in every airport, Jeff. I never read them either. But after watching this clever movie, I’m ready for more!

It is no surprise that I’ve read them all, multiple times. Those in the APA may recall I did a long article on the books. As a Tintin fan, I expect to like some and dislike other parts of this, but I’m hoping home sales of the DVD earn enough to justify another film. This is one I’ll be buying as soon as it comes out. Oh and Jeff, these are not just for kids, so it’s not too late to read them.

It opened in theaters late here, compared to most of the more TINTIN-fannish world (Prashant Trikannad reviewed a month or so before the US release).

I read Tintin comics in CHILDREN’S DIGEST around 1969, but, sadly, my folks didn’t get me a sustained subscription.

You and Rick Robinson are the two biggest Tintin fans I know, Todd. I really enjoyed THE ADVENTURES OF TINTIN: SECRET OF THE UNICORN. If Spielberg completes the projected trilogy, I’ll watch them eagerly.

This is on my list to see, of course. I came to TINTIN late in life and am a a fan mostly of the illustration of Tintin and Snowy. Just very charming stuff. I love the vintage feel of it all and the whole idea of adventuring all over the world with a dog by your side is very pleasant.

Plus, you gotta’ love that little tuft of hair. 🙂

I love that little tuft of Tintin’s hair, too, Yvette! Snowy stole the show in the movie. I hope Spielberg completes the projected trilogy.

Meanwhile…the cartoon series that was shown a few years back in becoming available. Series one is already available and series two will be out shortly. Yes, I’ve been a fan of Tintin for many years.

It looks like Spielberg will be making two more Tintin movies, Frank. I’ll be there on Opening Day to view them! I’ll keep my eyes open for the cartoon DVDs, too.

Tintin made a fortune overseas, and it is a true shame that Hollywood acted like spoiled brats and didn’t nominate it for an Oscar this year. It was a great film. I’ll be picking up a copy at some point, well worth watching.
