The Amazing Spider-Man 2 disappointed me on several levels. There’s the sub-plot about Peter Parker’s parents. There’s Peter’s Aunt (Sally Field) and her problems. But the element that brings the movie almost to a halt is Peter (Andrew Garfield) and Gwen’s (Emma Stone) “relationship.” Too much angst. I like both actors, but none of their love scenes seem convincing. Even with three villains–the Green Goblin, Electro, and Rhino–the action quotient seemed way down after last month’s excellent Captain America: The Winter Soldier. Unless you’re a hype Spider-Man fan, you can skip this lame movie. GRADE: C
George, my kids are watching this film today and I’ve been debating whether to see it or not. Now I think I won’t. I saw part one on television. I didn’t like Tobey Maguire as Peter Parker and I like Andrew Garfield even less. Neither looks like Peter Parker of the comic books.
I’ve about lost interest in movies based on comic books. I do want to see CAPTAIN AMERICA: THE WINTER SOLDIER, though.
Bill, CAPTAIN AMERICA: THE WINTER SOLDIER is way better than this mess.
Prashant, the problems with SPIDER-MAN 2 are not Andrew Garfield’s fault (I agree with you, he’s mis-cast). The plodding plot and predictable scenes (two passenger jets are about to collide…can Spider-Man restore the power grid so Air Traffic Control can avoid a catastrophe? ) result in a lifeless movie. But I am looking forward to GODZILLA next week!
Like Bill, I have lost interest in these films. I ended it with THE AVENGERS, which was exceptionally good. So why sully that memory?
Patti, it’s all about the money. I’m sure SPIDER-MAN 2 will take in Big Bucks this weekend. It’s already grossed over $100 million overseas.
I think I’ll read a book instead. Just finished my Crime in the ’50s book for the special FFB, now on to some SF.
Rick, I envy you. I still have one more set of research papers to correct.
I’m confused. Haven’t there already been three Spiderman movies?
Bob, MARVEL is “rebooting” the Spider-Man series with new actors and a new storyline. Money, money, money.
Wow. A C from George is like an F from other critics. Since I must confess that I have never been a Spider Man fan and haven’t seen a single one of the movies this won’t affect me but still, I’m surprised.
PS – One more day in Hellizona. Home tomorrow night.
Jeff, SPIDER-MAN 2 was a disappointment. I’m hoping the new X-MEN movie is much better. Have a safe trip home!
