THE BETTER NUT BAR

As a diabetic, I’m always looking for good tasting snacks with lower carbs. Our local Sam’s Club sent us a coupon book and I noticed the ad for The Better Nut Bar. I’m a lover of nuts so this was very appealing to me. Diane found The Better Nut Bar box–not in the snack aisle where you would expect it to be–but in the COOKING aisle. Weird.

There are 24 nut bars in the box which sells for $11 at Sam’s Club. I tried a bar and loved it. Nuts, dark chocolate, and sea salt. Yum! And given the Dietary Fiber of 7 grams, the net carbs are only 9 grams! If you’re a nut fan, you’ll love The Better Nut Bar. And, the price is right! Do you have a favorite granola or nutrition bar? Very interesting. We get a very similar nut bar at Costco, Kirkland Signature Nut Bars with Cocoa Drizzle and Sea Salt. As you will see, they are very close in nutritional values, etc. The box has 30 bars for about $14, I believe, though occasionally they are on sale. We generally share one bar, with Jackie insisting I eat a bigger piece. I will put George’s figures, where different, in parentheses.

Jeff, sadly we don’t have a COSTCO in Western NY. There are always rumors that COSTCO is coming here, but so far…nothing.

Not much of a fan of granola or nut bars. I sometimes buy some of the bars put out by Atkins which are low carb but they are a bit pricey. I am diabetic so I am always looking for low carb/sugar foods. Recently I have tried the new low net carb ice creams. They are not very good, lacking the creaminess of regular ice cream.
Sea salt may be a selling point but I can’t taste any difference from regular salt.

That is definitely a recent trendy thing. We have dark chocolate-covered graham cracker cookies from Trader Joe’s with sea salt that are very tasty, but what the difference is between sea salt and regular salt beats me.

Sea salt refers to the size of the salt grain. The taste isn’t different, but bigger grains have a different texture and the saltiness level overall can be different.

I love nuts but generally eat them right out of the can rather than in bars. This does sound good, though.

In Europe sea salt is also trendy (and expensive) – but even trendier is Himalaya salt.
It was sold blue, they claimed it came from a lake – but then it was found to be artificial colouring!
I don’t think there is any difference – we have a salt mine near and of course there was an ocean there millions of years ago.
My wife doesn’t like nuts because of her teeth but she likes dark chocolate.
Not too far is the Ritter Sport factory outlet where I buy for her dark chocolate with 70% or even 80% cocoa That has a really intense taste.

I’m not crazy about dark chocolate but I can eat it if necessary! I’m not supposed to eat nuts (diverticulitis) but I’ll have them on occasion! The calorie count of these bars is almost the same as a Snickers! Of the two, Jeff’s sounds better!

I am also diabetic, as a recent new member of Sams Club, I picked up a box of these Members Mark Better Nut bars, I was actually comparing them to “kind” bars, that I recently came to like while Hiking in Glacier national Park. What made my buy the KInd Bars, is that on the label they say “Low Glycemic” It does not state that on these Members mark bars, and in my opinion these don’t taste as good as “Kind” but they are much better in price than Kind. So I am wending, are these Members Mark nut bards also considered low glycemic and just don’t say so on the label?
