THE CLOSER AND RIZZOLI & ISLES

Finally, Summer TV ceases to be a wasteland of World Cup games and LeBron specials. The Closer begins Season Six tonight. Kyra Sedgwick and her talented cast returns with new cases to solve. Following The Closer on TNT tonight is a new program based on Tess Gerritsen’s crime novels, Rizzoli & Isles. Angie Harmon (Law & Order, Women’s Murder Club) and Sasha Alexander (NCIS) star. Looks good.

I figured you’d get in a mention of THE CLOSER. We’ll try the other because Jackie is a fan of the Rizzoli & Isles books (more Rizzoli, not so much Isles). There are some other summer shows worth a look: LEVERAGE, EUREKA, FLASHPOINT, WAREHOUSE 13, BURN NOTICE, MEMPHIS BEAT to name several.

I for one am sick of the whole LeBron fiasco. I did NOT watch, by the way.

Just like a car crash, I had to look at the LeBron special, Jeff. I believe the whole fiasco was badly handled. If LeBron doesn’t win a Championship with the Heat, he’ll look like a fool.

Yes, I saw a good review of it yesterday. Here’s hoping. I liked the first MEMPHIS BEAT but the third one was not nearly as good. Why does that happen so much>

Quality control is a problem, Patti. It’s pretty easy to turn out a couple of solid episodes, but to keep the quality of all the episodes high seems to beyond most TV series today.

The first one was definitely the best so far, Patti. And what’s with the guy with the ponytail – so we know he’s an Indian?

TV shows: all those shows I’ve not heard of, let alone watched. Boy, have I saved a ton of time!

Lebronego: He already looks like a fool. A RICH fool, but still a fool. I expect the Miami lifestyle will suck him in and soon he’ll be in jail or shot or something.

Saw a Rizzoli & Isles paperback prominently displayed at the supermarket today. As the Contours sang, “push, push”.

LeBron is a 25-year-old kid who never when to college, Rick. I’m sure his “decision” was swayed by the posse around him. I think he made the wrong choice, but we’ll see if he wins championships in Miami.

Ha! Rick, you are funny! No, THE CLOSER is a police interrogator who “closes” the case by getting the suspect to confess to the crime. I think THE CLOSER is one of the best series on TV.

THE CLOSER was pretty good; at least they’re smart enough to keep the sense of humor to help balance the murder somewhat. Granted, Jackie called the murderer as soon as s/he appeared, but then we’ve read and watched a lot of these things.

RIZZOLI AND ISLES crammed an entire novel into a one hour timeslot, which was a tight fit. Jackie has read all the books and said they made Isles much more likeable than she is in the books, where she’s a cold bitch.

We liked THE CLOSER, Jeff. The whole subplot about moving into the new high-tech building was funny. I’ll give RIZZOLI & ISLES another couple weeks before I make a decision. Like you and Jackie, I found the action sporadic and, at the conclusion, compressed. I like Sasha Alexander more than Angie Harmon. But, that’s just me.

Just stick Provenza on screen and you can’t go wrong. I can’t wait for the episode (might be next week) where he and Flynn date two young flight attendants and the night ends with… that would be telling!
